POSITION SUMMARY: The Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who: 1) Organizes the Trauma Programs injury prevention processes and initiatives for the program across the continuum of care and, 2) collaborates with the professional community and develops relationships with other agencies and organizations with the goal of enhancing trauma-related care and relations of those in the community/region. The Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator provide trauma education and training to healthcare providers (i.e., nurses, EMS providers, other healthcare providers) and intended target audiences. Performs and assists with injury prevention research and injury prevention programs that are consistent with the community needs, the Regional Medical Center of San Jose code of conduct, Trauma Performance Improvement Plan, and professional organizational standards. The position plays an integral role in research efforts related to trauma center data analysis and evidence based research activities. The Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator demonstrates clinical nursing competency and acts as a clinical resource, functioning as a role model for patient care and assists in staffdevelopment and community development. The position oversees the Trauma Programs outreach and injury prevention programs to confirm the Trauma Centers verification and designation are met for outreach education and injury prevention, including related Performance Improvement initiatives. Trauma center public relations are inherent in this role. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum:California Registered Nurse, Bachelors Degree, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC, Membership and participation in local, regional, and national trauma organizations (i.e., STN, ATS). Preferred:Masters Degree in nursing or Masters in Public Health. Preferred Certifications: ENPC, TNCC instructor, CEN or TCRN EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum:5 years nursing experience in a critical care area that cares for trauma patients (i.e. ICU, ED); Management experience; Teaching experience Preferred:Prior Trauma Program / Injury Prevention and Outreach experience. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum:Bachelors degree in nursing Preferred:Masters degree in nursing or Masters in Public Health KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Minimum: 1. Strong public-speaking skills, presentation development, communication and interpersonal skills. 2. Experience in coordinating educational / injury prevention programs, courses, and conferences. 3. Excellent organizational skills, ability to work to deadlines, respond efficiently and appropriately to requests. 4. Excellent customer service skills. Communicate effectively with persons of various cultures and educational backgrounds. 5. Ability to be an active member of an interdisciplinary team. 6. Understands and demonstrates evidenced-based care. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 7. Be available on weekends for scheduled programs / events. 8. Knowledge of trauma statistical reports, peer review, performance improvement and injury prevention and epidemiology is an asset. Preferred: Injury prevention and outreach experience.
