About this job

What is my job:

As a Quality Assurance team member, you will be given the opportunity to work hands-on with the QA team to ensure all products leaving the facility meet Wegmans high standards of food safety and quality. You will perform a variety of tests on both new and existing products and packaging; ensuring stores receive the best products for our customers.

Note to Applicant: Must be flexible to work either 2nd or 3rd shift. 2nd – 4:00pm – 12:30am

3rd – 12:00am – 8:30am

How do I make a difference?

  • Monitors and verifies that food safety and quality policies, plans and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Identifies potentially harmful and out of compliance situations and respond accordingly and with the appropriate urgency.
  • Documents results and reports findings, appropriately using a variety of tools and resources, thus assuring our customers a high quality and wholesome product
  • Supports and educates personnel on quality and food safety initiatives.
  • Performs quality assurance testing and inspections on Wegmans Bakeshop products, materials, equipment and processes. Includes physical, chemical and sensory tests in production and laboratory environments.
  • Supports new item development through testing and monitoring.
  • Acts as a team player by respecting, supporting and encouraging co-workers
  • Delivers incredible customer service to our stores through efficiency, quality, and accuracy
  • Looks for opportunities to eliminate re-work, waste (product and packaging materials), contamination, potential hazards etc, and communicates thoughts with the leadership team

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Quality Assurance, Bakery, Manufacturing, or similar experience
  • Two-year degree in a science related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong follow through and attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and to work independently or as part of a group
  • Able to problem solve, anticipating, analyzing, and identifying problems, responding quickly when situations arise and preventing problems when possible
  • Strong Internet and PC skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Possess organizational skills, prioritizing requests and department activities while managing interruptions and attending to details to complete tasks within deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and react to a variety of situations at one time
  • Displays integrity and the ability to build trust with others
  • Provide incredible service and gain the trust and respect of others by providing accurate information and responding to situations in a timely manner, listening carefully and acting with customers in mind

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

  • Experience in food manufacturing or Quality Assurance
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods, testing equipment, and laboratory practices
  • Familiarity with current food and product safety regulations
  • Experience with good manufacturing practices
  • Familiarity with HACCP

Work environment:

  • Will work in food production areas around various equipment and with a diverse work force
  • Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
  • Will work in rooms with hot, humid, and cold conditions; individuals must be able to move comfortably from one environment to the next
  • May be exposed to various allergens
  • Required to wear company-issued uniforms, jackets, and footwear and as well as a hair net, safety glasses, and gloves
  • Required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices, including no jewelry in the workplace • Position requires lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Shift start times will vary
