Recovery Assistant (Relief)

The Recovery Assistant assists veterinarians and surgical staff in the care of animals. This is a part-time relief position, with a minimum requirement of at least 1 shift per month. Sunday shifts most available. Duties and Responsibilities * Recover animals exiting surgical suite. Monitor, stimulate, clean, extubate, clean ears, clip nails and return to holding cage as required. Take direction from veterinarian as required. Understand procedures to determine emergency measures. May include disconnecting animals from surgical equipment and moving animals out of surgery. * Prepare supplies for surgery. Clean, sterilize and prepare surgical instruments/materials as required in advance of need. Maintain inventory on these items. * Must wash, dry, fold and store laundry needs for clinic and kennels. Maintain inventory on items. * Responsible for maintaining clean work area and equipment. May assist vet-tech/assistants in cleaning surgical and animal holding areas as needed. * Assist in front office duties to include answering the telephones, scheduling appointments and other duties as assigned. Assist in morning animal check-in and vaccination clinic work as needed. Assist with pre-surgery animal preparation as needed. Requirements * Passion for animals and animal welfare * 1+ years experience preferred * Must be able to lift 40 lbs * Efficient, understanding, caring, ability to multi-task and follow direction in a fast paced environment.
