Person Care Assistant (PCA)

Job summary

The PCA works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The PCA provides assistance and support to individual clients, living independently in the community. The Home Health Aide reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor or Qualified professional.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a phone or a way to communicate to the office daily as needed
Have at least six months experience in a health care facility
Possess the ability to read, write and carry out directions. Possess the maturity to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
United States Citizenship or evidence of a valid Alien Work Permit.
Must have a current and valid PCA competency test Certificate or compete PCA competency test program which is a 25 question test
Initiate and clear a criminal background study.
Enroll with the DHS as a PCA once all employment criteria are met.
Preferred high school diploma or equivalency
Duties and Responsibilities :

Perform personal care activities, including but not limited to:
Dressing
Bathing
Grooming
Eating
Mobility
Positioning
Have demonstrated dependability, and ability to follow orders.
Have demonstrated the ability to work with little supervision and make appropriate judgments.
Assistance with medication per nurse s direction.
Accompanying to medical appointments as needed
Report changes in the client's condition and needs to the Registered Nurse.
Complete the appropriate records to document cares given and pertinent
Respond and attend to client requests promptly.
Maintain proper hand washing techniques.
Communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain a safe client environment.

Occasional use of hands, wrists and fingers and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds may be required.
The person in this position frequently communicates with clients daily and must be able to exchange accurate information to nurses and management
The person in this position needs to occasionally Crouch (bend at knees), Kneeling/Crawling, Twisting (knees/waist/neck), bend at knees
This position requires spending a majority of the workday standing and walking, with occasional sitting.
Must have close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Occasional works in outdoor weather conditions when transporting clients
