Carpenter -- Job Description

Reports to and receives assignments, instructions, and direction from the Foreman or General Foreman. Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities. Knowledge of residential and commercial construction along with remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control. Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, utilize appropriate math skills. Able to read blueprints. Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates. Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site. Builds and erects a broad range of structures in support of construction and maintenance activities.

Details;

Follows safe work practices.

Perform quality work.

Prepare the layout of the work project.

Estimate height, width, length, and, other proportions, including angles/degree's.

Select materials.

Read blueprints, and, take instructions from his supervisors.

Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, and drywall.

Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and, sanders, to repair and erect structures.

Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.

Work safely from ladders and scaffolds.

Verify work along the way to ensure it's up to code and specification's.

Use levels, rules, plumb-bob, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.

Install cabinets and molding, and, finish trim.

Hang sheetrock, tape, spackle, and sand.

Create structures for pouring concrete.

Erect scaffolding.

Replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors.

Repair, or, build commercial furniture.

Install partition's, doors, and, windows.

Move and install machinery.

Completes records, maintains equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities. Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Performs other duties and activities as directed. Typically requires 3-5 years of related experience.
