POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is part of the care team in the ambulatory patient care setting and directly interacts with the patient, family, and caregiver in person, over the telephone and via the patient portal. The Medical Assistant advocates for the patient in the delivery of quality, cost effective patient care by performing the clinical tasks and duties assigned by the physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, registered nurse, and practice leadership to improve individual and population health.
EDUCATION:
HS Diploma and Technical School required.
EXPERIENCE:
0-1 years' experience required, 2-4 preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration Required:
Certified Medical Assistant per NJBOME -- must be a graduate of a 600 hour Medical Assistant program that is accredited by the Department of Education. Must be certified by one of the following certifying bodies: NHA, AMT, NCCT or AAMA.
CPR for Healthcare Providers.
Licensure/Certification/Registration Preferred:
Clinical Unit Clerk course.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal.
Ability to use the computer.
Customer focused.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Prior clerical experience.
Vital signs and EKG.
Ability to perform diversified duties with a high degree of accuracy.
Injection administration.
Knowledge of sterile techniques and proper technique for blood and urine specimen collection, preparation, storage and delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred:
Medical terminology
Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks
Prior Medical Assistant experience
Familiarity with ICD10 and CPT coding
Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort (e.g. continuous typing, occasional lifting, prolonged standing/bending, etc.)
Primary Equipment Used:
Computer
Specific office equipment
Information Technology devices
Standard patient care equipment
