About this job

The Medical Health Technician is responsible to assist the professional staff by performing routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep medical teams running smoothly. Tasks include are but not limited to: greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, filling out various patient forms, handling correspondence, and arranging for patient to see the provider.

Patients getting through an addiction can be a slow and painful process. It can be very challenging job. As an addiction medical tech we must act to enhance the dignity, compassion and integrity of patients by applying strategies to promote self esteem that encourage patients to use coping skills through all process phases.Provide therapy to clients as assigned by Clinical Director

  • Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs, blood glucose, breathalyzer, weight; and testing urine; per physician's orders & ensuring all above findings are documented in EMR
  • Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; answering patients' requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.Assists clients in developing measurable chemical dependency/dual diagnosis related discharge treatment plan, goals and objectives
  • Provides for patients' personal hygiene as needed.
  • Communicates and maintains a daily report, along with interacting with nurses/providers/co-workers throughout the shift then reports off at the end of shift.
  • Assists with admissions by educating patients of their rights, signing the consent to be treated and multiple other forms.
  • Secures medical records-ensuring all information is in patient's electronic file.-prepares chart for admission, maintains chart and then ensures chart is broken down on discharge, scanned, and filed. While maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Prepares patients for examination by provider.
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
  • Attends staff meetings and updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintains patient safety by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures, federal, state and local requirements.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy-HIPAA, and dignity of residents in the delivery of services to them. Interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment- cleans equipment each shift and in between patients use; reports environmental deficiencies to the charge nurse such as lighting or equipment problems. Maintains medical supplies; performing calibration testing per manufactures guidelines.
  • Responsible for creating and supporting a positive, professional, team-oriented, harassment-free work environment by understanding and complying with the Company’s policies, by demonstrating the Company’s competencies, and being a role model for the Company “HEARTBEAT” Values.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Current FirstAid/CPR card required
  • CNA certification or Medical Assistant certification required
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience with production of specialized materials and documents.
  • Some proofreading and editing skills.
  • Flexibility with schedule, including availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Team player who has excellent communications skills
  • Must enjoy working with a diverse population
  • Neat, well groomed and a courteous, pleasant manner.
  • Detail-oriented and motivated worker
  • Trained in the provision of social and emotional support
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually. Ability to stand, walk and reach continually. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch frequently.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine. Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.
  • Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
