HDQC - SR USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER

POSITION PURPOSE

At The Home Depot Quote Center, we get UX; it’s baked into our DNA. We’re excited to expand the team as we drive new initiatives. As a Sr. UX Designer on the UX team, you will work with other team members, (UX architect, designers and researchers as well as analysts, developers and strategists) to integrate your work into the larger UX architecture, helping craft end-to-end user experiences across HDQC’s external products and internal services.

You can defend your designs because they are based on fundamental research: behavioral, contextual and/or other means of capturing information from your users. You have the spark of out-of-box thinking, abductive reasoning and the joy of “playing pretend.” You are serious about your work and can describe it to highly-analytical engineers & analysts.

Your flair for expression is tempered by the needs of your users. You prototype—almost any media will do, as long as it facilitates a conversation with your audience. Your passion for creating a holistic vision is grounded in the understanding of technical constraints. You can formalize your thinking into use cases, flow charts, information architectures, personas, user stories, wire frames and specifications. You have a desire to see your designs made manifest in code; better yet, you enjoy dabbling in front-end code. 

You seek help from all sources: architects, designers, engineers, analysts, product owners and product managers. Even as you believe world-class design is not created by committee, you enjoy the collaborative effort, taking feedback & criticism as a means of improving the end results. You demonstrate leadership by coaching and mentoring others, through your modeling of design thinking and your passion for doing the right thing.

As Sr. UX Designer, you are comfortable working within a highly dynamic and shifting business landscape. You understand UX architecture and can envision how your designs execute on the architecture. You are comfortable working with business and development stakeholders. In prior roles, you may have been a Product Owner, helping author and prioritize user stories, grooming the Product Backlog and working closely with your Product Managers.

 MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

50% Translate wireframes into comps, storyboards, experience prototypes.
30% Responsible for developing and communicating industry-leading creative concepts while balancing strategic development with online business objectives.
10% Build and maintain relationship with merchandising, usability, seo, technology, partner agencies, photographers and other vendors.
10% Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Position reports to Manager, User Experience
No direct reports.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Additional Environmental Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Additional Qualifications:
- Mastery of all the latest design tools, platforms, and versions of applicable software programs: Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), iRise and other design tools.
- Understanding of motion design and the strengths and limitations of Flash, AfterEffects, Ajax, Flex, and other emerging platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Designing in an Enterprise Application environment
• Understanding trends in SaaS in an enterprise environment
• Experience with integrating enterprise platform/cloud solutions
• Comfortable & knowledgeable with Agile development process
• Certified SCRUM Product Owner
• Demonstrated experience with Adobe products
• 7+ years of experience in complex multi-discipline team environment.
• Front end coding in HTML, CSS, JS or any object-oriented language.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate and self-manage complex projects.
• Desire to thrive in a fast-moving environment, with a need to out-pace external market competition.
• Contributor to the UX field through publications, talks and engagements.
