Position Overview:

Description
The Industrial Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship is Quad Graphics formal training program for Electricians. It is a minimum 4-year apprenticeship that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction one day per week at an approved technical college program.  While in the plant, the Electrical Apprentice will be responsible for assisting with the installation, servicing and troubleshooting of production and support equipment within our plants.  This position will include rotations through various maintenance departments, project support, preventative, and predictive maintenance.   Upon successful completion of the program, employees will receive a federal Certificate of Apprenticeship from the Department of Labor.
Job Duties
Assist electricians in a cooperative manner as directed, with inspections, preventative, proactive and repair type maintenance activities on all production related equipment.
Develop an understanding of the production process and factors that can affect production yields and quality.
As directed and with assistance from a qualified Electrician, develop ability and knowledge in the following areas of the trade:
Electrical Maintenance – Maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial production equipment. Repair and/or replace components such as motors and transformers, electronic controls, motor controls, and drives.
Electrical Construction – Panel building, Installation of conduit and wiring for machine controls, power distribution and lighting.
Electrical Safety –Knowledge of the NEC, including proper use of PPE.  Safe use of hand tools, power tools, electrical and electronic test equipment. Completion of company required safety training including but, not limited to LOTO, scissors and boom lift, fork truck, fire extinguisher.  Maintain a safe and cleanworking environment at all times.  Support and promote corporate and departmental safety goals and initiatives.
Local Work Processes – Storeroom procedures, predictive/preventive maintenance practices, substation maintenance, circuit design, drafting, and Maintenance Control software programs.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to satisfactorily complete the Bluegrass Community and Technical College admissions assessment requirement. A solid mechanical background and good math skills preferred. The ability to work independently and responsibly in a variety of environments, including at heights up to 50 feet are essential.

Candidate must be a Quad employee for a minimum of 60 days. Satisfactory performance and attendance within the last 12 months required. Those selected as final candidates will be required to provide two satisfactory professional references.
Apprentices will be expected to be equipped with a basic set of hand tools within the first 30 days of the apprenticeship.
