Temporary Staffing Services is posting and screening candidates on behalf of the hiring University unit.

Job Summary

UM is taking the lead in the design and construction of 5000 pencil-sized robots, which maneuver to collect spectra of distant galaxies as part of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument.

Instrument Assembly Worker - duties include: putting together custom metal parts in a miniature assembly line; using epoxy and miniature screws to construct individual robotic assemblies; thoroughly document all progress into database; and other duties as assigned. The assembly will take place in a clean room where individuals must wear protective clothing such as lab coats, hair/shoe covers, and nitrile gloves. Qualifications include: Meticulous attention to detail obtained through activities such as model building, hand sewing, painting, etc. Ability to follow instructions thoroughly and work as a team. All necessary training will be provided. Pays at least $12/hr. depending on skills and experience.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:30pm preferred, but may also consider an earlier or later start for well-qualified candidates. Position starts ASAP and is expected to last through Spring 2018.
