Job Description

Under the direction of the Billing Supervisor, the Billing Account Representative responsibilities include claim creation, billing, payment posting, denial follow-up and patient collection activities. Must maintain accuracy and adhere to all compliance regulations and Hospital polices. Acts as a liaison with patients and may provide financial guidance with the Phelps Medical Practice polices to patients and family members in pursuit of account resolution.
  1. Communicates all coding errors to providers; provides documentation to assist provider in making correction.
  2. Submit electronic claims making corrections as needed; submits paper claims with documentation as required by carrier.
  3. Communicates with patients to obtain any missing information require for billing purposes.
  4. Posts all insurance and patient payments into computerized billing system. Process and post all credit card payments.
  5. Ensures that account balances are accurate, complying with Medicare/Medicaid rates and Managed Care contracts.
  6. Follows up on all unpaid claims, write appeals to overturn denials
  7. Pursues contract underpayments.
  8. Evaluates patient financial status, establishes and manages payment plans and applies charity care discounts into billing system.
  9. Provides information, explanation regarding insurance to patients.
  10. Generates monthly patient statements and internal collection letters
  11. Reviews accounts for collections and generates monthly collection reports for outside for collection agency.
  12. Generates daily close report; reconciles and balances all work each day.
  13. Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, required.
Minimum of one (1) year physician billing experience in a physician's office, required.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated knowledge of computerized physician billing systems.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ICD-10 and CPT billing codes, reimbursement rates as related to a private physician practice, required.
Demonstrated ability to perform simple math calculations.
Excellent verbal communication skills required.
Good organizational skills and the ability to plan and meet deadlines required.
Must be computer literate
Ability to read, write and communicate in English required.
