Description:


Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Scientific Information Office to understand current needs and concerns as well as future plans.
- Establish solid relationships and maintain effective communications with the scientific user community and technical support staff.
- Inventory, document, and secure all existing instrument controllers, including MRI machines, PACS systems, spectrophotometers, mass spectrometers, microscopes (optical, electron, and fluorescence), fluorometers, Illumina genetic sequencers, and BioAnalyzers.
- Learn and document technical functions of instrument controllers and scientific software.
- Identify, document, and translate scientific requirements into configuration, scripting, and network access requirements for Service Desk and Systems Operations Technicians.
- Analyze scientific requirements; develop and implement solutions that balance scientific, functional, technical, and security needs.
- Develop custom programs and scripts aimed facilitating solutions and improving performance.
- Train Service Desk and Systems Operations Technicians on support requirements and best practices for maintaining instrument controllers and scientific software.
- Assist scientists and vendors in deploying, configuring, troubleshooting, upgrading, maintaining, and supporting instrument controllers and scientific software.
- Manage infrastructure and configuration requirements for new instrument controllers and scientific software systems.
- Work with the security, patching, and release management teams to maintain functionality and security of all instrument controllers and scientific software.
- Work with Network Operations to implement and configure firewalls and connect to network and storage resources.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in bioinformatics or related field
- Experience supporting lab sciences and instrument controllers
- Experience supporting Mac (OS 10. 6 and above), Linux (Ubuntu, SciLinux, CentOS, RedHat, SuSE, etc.), and all Windows desktop platforms
- Intermediate programming and shell scripting skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to listen carefully, analyze requirements, and develop innovative solutions that balance potentially conflicting perspectives
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills across scientific, technical, and non-technical audiences
- Familiarity with High Performance Computing Environments
- Knowledge of Network Operations and Systems Administration
- Experience with enterprise level ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.
- Meet all requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more OS-related vendor certifications (Apple, Linux, Microsoft)
- One or more vendor-independent certifications such as those from CompTIA (A+, N+, Project+, Security+, etc.)
- ITIL v3 Foundation certification
- Experience with remote and mobile enabled user environments

Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
