On behalf of Mathematica Policy Research, Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking Part Time Field Interviewers to conduct in-person interviews with the parent or guardian responsible for children in households that school districts verified earlier this year.  Part-Time field interviewers will work as employees of Headway Workforce Solutions on behalf of Mathematica Policy Research.

As a Part-Time Field Interviewer, you should live within a 30-mile radius of Gaithersburg, MD. Training will begin in mid-January 2018 with project work starting either in late January or February. Once work begins, the data collection process will last approximately 12 weeks depending on location and project needs.

Mathematica Policy Research, a nationally recognized social policy research company, will support The Study of Non-Response to the School Meals Application Verification Process (AVNR). The study will examine the accuracy of the current school meals verification process.

Household can also receive “certification” for free or reduced-price meals if the parent or guardian submits an application that demonstrates they meet certain criteria that make them eligible to participate in the NSLP and/or SBP.

Each year, school districts are required to check a small number of these certifications to ensure families are receiving proper benefits, through a process known as “school meals verification."

We offer to our Part-Time Field Interviewers:

  • Average of 30 hours per week

For this study, Part-Time Field Interviewers will:

  • Conduct in-person interviews with the parent or guardian responsible for children in households that school districts verified earlier this year
  • Schedule appointments and conduct 45-minute in-person interviews at these households, or at a nearby location (such as a library) if the respondent does not wish to meet in their home
  • May have to do some searching to locate the correct respondents, and they may need to work to convince respondents to participate or convert potential refusals.
  • Record notes for all interactions with respondents, and provide payments in the form of gift cards to every respondent who completes an interview.

Requirements:

  • Attend 3-day out of town in-person paid training week of January 15, 2018
  • Available up to 30 hours per week including evenings and weekends
  • Basic understanding of computers
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation

Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Experience interviewing (especially in the field and working in unfamiliar areas)
  • Experience working with electronics (tablets, cell phones) and computer assisted interviewing – the AVNR survey is in-person accessed through the web
  • Experience converting refusals and putting folks at ease
  • Experience going to unfamiliar areas to talk with contacts and folks in the neighborhood to locate study participants
  • Familiarity with pay stubs and basic financial paperwork (for when they ask for income documentation)
