In the role of the Kitchen Manager (Team Leader Cook I), you will assist the Chef and Sous Chef in overseeing the Prepared Foods department. You’ll have the opportunity to work hands on with employees to develop their food passion, produce great tasting prepared foods and ensure the kitchen is operating smoothly. I will add value by:

  • Assisting Sous Chef in running the kitchen and managing employees by performing tasks essential to the proper functioning of the department including hiring & staffing, training & development, scheduling and ordering with Simplification practices in mind
  • Delegating tasks to team members and empowering them to take on new challenges, being certain to provide timely feedback and annual performance reviews that focus on their growth and professional development
  • Educating customers and employees on products in the department, making sure to share knowledge to offer complete meal solutions, suggest ways to prepare meal items and work across departments to eliminate knowledge barriers and exceed expectations
  • Ensuring products are prepared with a consistent, high quality outcome by following Wegmans core recipes & cooking techniques and educating team members on these practices
  • Maintaining the overall appearance of the department, ensuring products levels are sustained throughout the day and food is well-merchandised to showcase quality and increase sales
  • Possessing a complete understanding of the Prepared Foods department and accurately forecasting department and customer needs when planning daily production lists and menus as well as scheduling employees
  • Familiarizing self with products in inventory and seeking to reduce waste by working across Prepared Foods departments to find ways to utilize shrink
  • Educating and ensuring team members are properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

  • Experience working as a Cook II / line cook

  • Practice proper planning and staffing techniques which include managing time and resources

  • Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Ability to multi-task and react to a variety of situations at one time
  • Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
  • Exhibit merchandising skills by attractively displaying products considering seasonality, cross-merchandising opportunities and corporate programs with the aim of educating and enticing customers
  • Assist with meal preparation and planning by providing customers with proper serving guidelines and recommending correct cooking techniques, helping to make great meals easy

What will set me apart from other candidates:

 

  • Managerial/ supervisory experience
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
  • Experience working in a multi-faceted food service facility, including restaurant, hotel, country club, conference center, casino, theme park, etc.

Work environment: 

  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5 – 20 pounds with the maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes
  • Tasks will be performed using and in the proximity of coolers, ovens, stoves and other hot equipment; cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
