In this role, as part of the Automation team, the Lead Automation Engineer – Robotics will be instrumental in the design and development of the next generation Supply Chain Automation for Target. This role will play a lead role in the successful deployment and launch of automation supply chain technologies and processes. This individual must have exceptional problem solving skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams. The position requires deep understanding of Industrial and Collaborative robotics technologies as well as mobile robot technologies in manufacturing or supply chain environment. This individual will have deep experience in turn key robotic solutions which include the selection, programming, troubleshooting of robotic systems and its peripheral devices as grippers, sensors, safety devices, etc. This individual must be capable of defining the requirements and specifications as well as driving the development, validation and launch of complex automated distributed solutions at scale with minimum supervision. The targeted solutions will involve many types of automation systems including robotics (industrial, collaborative and mobile), sortation and conveyance, controls systems, vision systems, sensing technologies and process development and optimization. Target is looking for an individual that is a self-starter who can work independently and provide a level of creative and innovative thinking that is essential to the supply chain design process. This position will be based in Sunnyvale, California and will report to the Director of Automation Engineering organization.
 
About you:

• Minimum Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, distribution and/or logistics experience desirable
• Experience with Industrial, Collaborative and Mobile Robots systems including hardware, software, peripheral devices, etc.
• Knowledge of PLC, PC Based controls systems and communication protocols like Ethernet IP, Ethercat, DeviceNet, Etc.
• Extensive experience programming, troubleshooting robotic systems, vision systems, force sensors, collaborative grippers, etc.
• Working experience with simulation packages to optimize cycle times, throughput and efficiencies of the different automated lines.
• Experience with distributed, generic automated solutions versus traditional hard automation concepts.
• Experience on concept development, prototype testing, engineering design and managing the collaboration with Automation suppliers on Automated/Robotics solutions.
• Strong experience in Safety Systems, Safety Standards, Risk Assessment and how to apply Safety in robotic and automated solutions.
• Experience defining, developing, validating and deploying of multi-million dollar, complex capital equipment systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple ambiguous projects at the same time with a moderate degree of variation and uncertainty.
• Experience developing improvement initiatives, creating roll-out strategies, & deploying them across an enterprise scale organization is a plus.
• Ability to travel to interact with internal and external business and technical partners
