The Wastewater Chief Plant Operator is responsible for executing goals and objectives for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). In the absence of the Sewer System Manager, represents the Company to State and Federal regulatory agencies, community and civic organizations, property owners/members and business associations. Direct hands-on skills for maintenance of Wastewater System equipment are mandatory. Position requires the ability to troubleshoot, evaluate and develop a preventative maintenance plan. Emphasis is on management and day-to-day activities for the wastewater system currently serving 4,500+ homes. The system includes 14 pump stations, gravity and pressure lines and WWTP (slow rate land application facility) plus 4,000 grinder pumps.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates major activities through subordinates and assigned personnel.
2. Analyzes and maintains the effectiveness of the Wastewater System.
3. Provides leadership, direction, and guidance of all Wastewater System activities.
4. Works closely with the Sewer System Manager on all Wastewater System projects.
5. Executes Company policies.
6. Maintains regulatory compliance.
7. Corresponds with State and local officials pertaining to Wastewater System activities.
8. Reads blueprints and monthly operating reports, business letters, proposals, summaries and reports.
9. Develops and maintain preventive maintenance program.
10. Works closely with the Sewer System Manager and Collection System Supervisor in developing and managing annual budgets throughout the year.

FINANCIAL:
13. Assists Sewer System Manager in the preparation of all capital and operational budgets.
14. Purchases equipment and supplies within budgetary limits.
15. Approves purchase orders, invoices and check requests within budgeted limits.

STAFFING RESPONSIBILITY:
16. Hires, trains, evaluates, counsels and makes recommendations for any terminations for all Wastewater System employees.
17. Develops, mentors and trains staff in Wastewater System organization.

Requirements

Job Requirements
HS Diploma, some college preferred, completion of wastewater courses.
* 7-10 years of progressive experience in the wastewater industry
* Knowledge of OSHA and TOSHA requirements and other State and Federal regulatory requirements
* State of Tennessee Biological Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection II certification must be reciprocal or ability to obtain certifications within first year of employment


Additional Information
Able to work with minimum supervision.
This position requires that the employee be available and in physical condition to operate equipment in adverse weather conditions at certain times of the year. Seasonal overtime and long hours are required. Weekend and holiday work is occasionally required.
Normal speech, hearing, and vision, lifting of 50 pounds (more where applicable with assistance). Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, crawl, climb a ladder and walk on uneven ground.
