GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Patient Care Assistant is a member of the care team and the front-line staff member who is responsible and committed to making caring connections with each patient and understands the role they play in healing. Assists patients with activities of daily living and updating the nurse in a timely manner. The PCA interactions with all patients and families are an integral part of the caring relationship. The PCA takes accountability for hourly rounding to ensure frequent, deliberate, and purposeful contact with patients. The PCA make connections between actions, patient satisfaction and safety. Demonstrates a sense of ownership and understanding of their role in the patient experience outcomes as a part of the culture of caring. Demonstrate accountability as a team member for receiving and giving handoff report to the Registered Nurse at the beginning of shift, throughout the day as appropriate and at end of shift. Responsible for care tasks given throughout the shift under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous Patient Care experience or Student Nurse currently in a nursing program preferred. Current BLS certification required. Excellent Customer Service skills required.

4 East Oncology speciality unit with a hospice and palliative focus and overflow medical surgical telemetry patients.
