INSTRUCTOR, SPECIAL POPULATIONS - (Part Time) Description Provide instruction and support for developmentally disabled adults in a community classroom setting. Responsible for planning and implementing instruction, maintaining required paperwork, supervising classroom assistant. Serve as a liaison and advocate for students with appropriate agencies. This is a part-time, hourly position working Monday - Thursday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Rate of pay is determined by highest completed degree as supported by educational transcripts: Bachelors degree - $25.30/hour; Master's degree - $26.60/hour; Education Specialist - $27.50/hour; Doctorate - $28.40/hour. Examples of Duties Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are limited to, the following: Essential Functions: 1. Conducts initial interviews to explain programs and to establish rapport with students. 2. Enrolls students and assists in the completion of the Continuing Education Student Information enrollment form; completes LEIS forms, data, testing and progress; prepares a Student Folder. 3. Assesses students to insure placement in proper program; explains testing procedure; explains components of tests; administers tests to individuals; provides appropriate feedback. 4. Develops program of study that addresses each student's needs and goals; provides appropriate materials for student instruction; selects materials based on test scores, student interests, and student goals; maintains a file of multi-leveled supplemental materials. 5. Provides feedback on completed tasks; instructs using a variety of methods and media to include: individual, small group, whole group, computer-assisted, tutors, books, tapes, videos, maps, newspapers, calculators, rulers, and other hands-on materials as needed. 6. Monitors student progress by periodically administering standardized tests and conducting interviews; schedulesstudents for appropriate testing; coordinates the activities of tutors and other assistance. 7. Demonstrates appropriate classroom management skills, including but not limited to behavior modifications and interventions. 8. Assists students in maintaining folders and/or portfolios in order to monitor personal goals and needs; maintains ongoing student assessment to follow student progress, including semi-annual standardized testing to document student progress; keeps accurate records and submits when scheduled. 9. Implements new materials gained from training sessions, workshops, conferences, and staff development into the classroom curriculum; coordinates opportunities for supplemental learning in the classroom setting by inviting guest speakers with specialized training. 10. Submits reports for each student using the Literacy Education Information System to include data sheet, testing and progress, and student outcomes. 11. Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in adult education. 12. Plan and participate in the instruction of classes for the program; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance. Marginal Functions: 1. Ability to: -Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college. -Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations. -Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. -Use appropriate educational and administrative technology, i.e. Micro-soft Office, Blackboard, email, etc. -Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including community resources and agencies that provide direct and indirect support for programming. -Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures. -Work independently in the absence of supervision. -Provide classroom instruction to students. -Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Department, including, on demand, CPR certification and first aid principles as related to work area. -Understand and follow oral and written instructions. -Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time moderately heavy lifting and carrying operating assigned equipment. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations reading and writing operating assigned equipment communicating with others handling varied tasks simultaneously. Maintain mental capacity which permits: making sound decisions and using good judgment demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve: working closely with others periodically working irregular hours. Environmental Conditions: Office or classroom environment; working closely with others; periodically working irregular hours. Physical Conditions: Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderately heavy lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity; exposure to computer screens. Experience and Training Experience: Experience with adult developmentally disabled population in an educational setting required.
