Position Summary:

Develop and lead associate communications and engagement strategies that support the company’s business priorities and corporate Human Resources focus areas. Advise and counsel HR leadership team and help increase Kroger’s reputation as a positive place to work and build a career. Achieve results in collaboration with retail divisions and business units. Role model and demonstrate company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Create and lead associate communication plans that improve associates’ awareness of and connection to Kroger’s business priorities and HR focus areas
  • Create and execute communications strategies to support the corporate and General Office HR team for all company-wide communication needs
  • Lead all HR communications in partnership with the senior director of Associate Communications
  • Lead internal HR communications across the company to build teamwork, foster alignment and improve performance in all lines of business, divisions and departments
  • Create a recognizable HR brand to connect our HR initiatives and promote the company as a best place to work among current associates, new hires and potential candidates for hire
  • Lead development of compelling content across multiple channels to demonstrate the value of being part of the Kroger family (i.e. our Opportunity Culture and Total Rewards)
  • Support our Customer 1st Promise in partnership with others in the Associate Communications and Training departments
  • Develop and implement strategic internal communications plans and initiatives that promote the company’s Total Rewards plans for associates, including health & welfare benefits, retirement/savings plans, wellness programs, and pay programs
  • Create a strategic platform and disciplined process for delivering all Total Rewards communications
  • Lead weekly executive announcement process, working with senior leaders on confidential communications
  • Promote and renew awareness of our Values and Kroger Leadership Model
  • Evaluate and measure effectiveness of HR communications programs using results to strengthen planning and execution of future communications
  • Coach and counsel Division Associate Communications/ Engagement Managers to improve local and regional HR communications effectiveness
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of corporate communications or public relations experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
  • Consulting and influencing skills; strong listening skills
  • Prior experience managing agency resources
  • Proven track record of teamwork, innovation and delivery of business communication results
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priority projects involving different functional areas of the corporation
  • Ability to interact and influence at all levels of an organization including senior management
  • Proven ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to travel independently up to 30%
Desired Previous Job Experience:
  • 7+ years of corporate communications experience including internal communications
  • Experience in HR or benefits
  • Experience writing materials on associate engagement, HR policy, health care, organizational change, compensation and benefits
  • Experience communicating with a unionized workforce
  • Experience in a retail environment
