The Position The Bates College Offices of Title IX and Residence Life and Health Education is searching for a dynamic, creative, and personable individual to join our team as Coordinator of Health Education and Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA). The Coordinator of Health Education and SAVA will report to the Director of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance and the Assistant Dean of Students for Residence Life and Health Education. The offices are committed to creating communities that celebrate and honor difference, engage people of all backgrounds, and ensure all students have access to community resources. This position joins a vibrant and engaging professional and student team. The Coordinator of Health Education and Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) is a ten month, live-in staff member responsible for providing confidential advocacy and also for coordinating campus wide health education initiatives and programs. As the primary resource for confidential advocacy for those affected by sexual violence, the SAVA serves as a resource both to those pursuing formal reporting processes and those who choose not to report instances of sexual violence to the institution. This position provides advocacy related to navigating institutional, legal, and medical processes available to survivors and takes an active role in connecting individuals to appropriate long term resources for recovery. Harnessing the positive energy of Bates' interconnected community environment, the Coordinator for Health Education is responsible for building, facilitating, and assessing health education and violence prevention initiatives across campus. Frequently working with student leaders on campus, this position has the opportunity to meaningfully impact the Bates community. QUALIFICATIONS This role requires a Bachelor's degree in public health, social, psychology, higher education administration or relevant field, Master's degree preferred. A successful candidate for the position must have: 1-2 years of experience in residence life or higher education (including professional or student experience in residence life, student government, student activities, student or outdoor leadership positions, other campus offices, etc.) Green Dot Bystander Intervention College Facilitator trained by Alteristic Inc./Green Dot Inc. preferred Previous training in supporting survivors, crisis response, legal advocacy, or equivalent relevant frameworks preferred Experience supporting survivors of sexual violence through reporting and/or accessing resources Experience working in residence life, health education, or advocacy/support at a four year, residential, institution Experience working in collaborative and dynamic office environments Ability to effectively engage with diverse personalities and manage difficult situations. Demonstrated success in supporting students from underrepresented groups, including students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, first-generation-to-college students, LGBTQ+ identified individuals, and low-income students Experience working within a complex office environment with frequently shifting tasks and priorities with minimal supervision Excellent skills for advocacy and survivor support in within small and interconnected communities Excellent judgement and awareness for interpersonal dynamics Excellent communication (written, verbal and listening) skills Proficiency in basic data management systems and assessment practices (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, WordPress [website], Google docs, email and calendaring.)
