Job Description

The Pre-finisher/Blaster position is responsible for using a variety of tools to prepare a surface for coating TGP metal door and frame systems surfaces. The Pre-Finisher/Blaster must plan out the job to assure complete surface preparation and proper cleaning designated by the manufacture specifications and according to standard practices. Hours are Mon-Fri, 6AM - 2:30PM.

Essential Functions:

  • Sets up blast equipment to exact specifications and prepares equipment for production.
  • Utilize and maintain all personal protective equipment (PPE) in performance of assigned duties and tasks.
  • Applies masking materials to protect areas not to be blasted and plugs to protect threads.
  • Prepares surfaces using blast equipment utilizing knowledge of the materials, tools, and fixtures used in the process.
  • Understands general pre-prep operation, includes viewing product for defects before entering the coating booth.
  • Loads blaster tank with abrasive materials by manually lifting bags of grit and pouring contents into machine.
  • Adjusts regulation of air from compressor, varies concentration of grit and selects appropriate nozzle to obtain required surface finish.
  • Identifies characteristics of surfaces to be coated and ensures proper preparation for application of powder coating.
  • Sets rigging and scaffolding, and operates lifts and small cranes as needed to perform work.
  • Operates a variety of power and hand tools and equipment, including sanding, sandblasting and hand washing equipment.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment for compliance with safety requirements, including but not limited to, all guarding.
  • Corrects any safety issue prior to operating the equipment.
  • Ensures that items are properly hung on conveyor hooks. Hangs and removes parts from hooks when parts are not available to blast.
  • Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures for paint treatment actions.
  • Understand and comply with all appropriate safety and work safety regulations.
  • Continuously maintains a clean work area including the cleanup and disposal of trash, production scrap, and material drop-off. Assists in cleaning common areas.
  • As part of the housekeeping procedures, the employee may be involved with the disposal of hazardous waste
