Job Description

The Park Store Retail Manager leads and supervises all Western National Parks Association (WNPA) operations at The Gateway to Nature, Western National Parks Center, LA.  The Park Store Retail Manager will supervise all paid and volunteer staff members and will conduct regular and consistent training.

The site requires an innovative approach to blend traditional retail experience with relevant park stories, and emphasizing visitor education through the retail experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under general supervision, operates the park store in accordance with applicable Federal and state laws, WNPA policies and procedures, and professional business standards
  • Oversees the financial profit and loss statements and budgeting for the store in collaboration with Operations Manager
  • Sets business goals and objectives consistent with organizational strategic initiatives
  • Manages sales, public education, and outreach functions: organizes special sales events, specialty shows, and offsite sales. Manages public education programming signup and registration, as well as technical support and introductory needs of presenters. Identifies and communicates resources needed to appropriate parties
  • Effectively uses volunteers to augment paid staff and reduce labor costs. Notifies Human Resources of volunteer requirements and places volunteers in positions best suited to their abilities and WNPA’s needs
  • Monitors and manages staff and volunteer performance, ensuring store employees and volunteers are positively representing WNPA and national parks to the general public

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of management/supervisory experience in a retail environment, supervising staff, managing performance, and achieving high standards of quality and productivity
  • Experience creating and maintaining employee training programs;
  • Experience planning and implementing successful community education or outreach programs
  • Valid driver’s license
