About this job

- assists in setup and performance of various development, acceptance, and qualification test of aerospace hardware such as aircraft air distribution ducting and launch vehicle propulsion system components per written test procedures and laboratory supervisors' direction

- Assists in the setup and operation of mechanical testing apparatus and equipment, as directed.

- Conducts motion, burst, flow, leak, life cycling and similar mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic tests.

- Performs physical testing of bonding and adhesive agents, resins, plastic and impregnated materials, nylon cloth, silicone, neoprene and similar rubber and plastic compounds and ingredients used in the manufacture of non-metallic products.

- Takes pre- and post-test measurements and readouts to determine and record part and material motion and movement characteristics; verifies axial movements, degree of angulation, gimbal and bearing action, part offset, clearance and fit; checks compression and extension limits, critical length part deflection, deformation and distortion.

- Plots and summarizes test data; prepares statistical reports, charts and graphs, as directed. Prepares and maintains test logs, records and reports; records test data; participates in data reduction; prepares manufacturing specification outlines, illustrations and sketches.

- In connection with the aforementioned, performs a variety of non-technical laboratory assignments such as handling, moving and storing of laboratory supplies; making minor repairs to test apparatus and equipment; transporting units; preparatory fabrication and assembly operation and other mechanical work requiring a combination of shop skills proficient use of standard shop equipment, hand tools an instruments.

Qualifications

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

Good mechanical skills

Attention to detail

Familiarity of hand and power tools

3+ years of experience in aerospace testing preferred

Experience with cryogenics and / or helium leak testing using mass spectrometers a plus

Understanding of / ability to utilize shop mathematics and drafting room techniques/ practices

Able to read calipers, height gages, and dial indicators

Strong verbal, written, and interepersonal communication skills

Detail oriented

Must be US person and be able to provide acceptable documentation of proof
