Under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, supervises the following activities of the Nursing Services Department: human resource management, patient care management, education, development and fiscal management including the appropriate allocation of human and material resources for the delivery of patient care. Functions as a resource person for staff members, and assists in patient care and educational programs specific to the units. Makes decisions based on Hospital Administrative Policies, Personnel Policies, and Patient Care Policies. Refers significant information to the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Executive Officer as appropriate.

Assumes the responsibility for maintaining the efficient functioning of the each department on a 24-hour basis. Has the responsibility for initiating, guiding, directing and coordinating unit activities. Responsible for the evaluation of individual nursing personnel. Is responsible for the overall quality of patient care on the unit(s). Makes decisions based on Hospital Administrative Policies, Personnel Policies, and Patient Care Policies. Responsible for PI activities and for the development and implementation of Patient Care Standards for the department.

Minimum Education:

RN required, BSN preferred.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take the appropriate action.

Licenses/Certifications

Current licensure by the State of Tennessee or a compact agreement state as a Registered Nurse.

Basic Life Support Certification

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification and NRP

AWHONN Intermediate Monitoring and STABLE.
