We're currently looking for a Senior Manager, IT Program and Project Management to join our ITPMO-Information Technology Project Management Office in Roanoke, VA. Our ITPMO is a component of Advance Auto Part's Information Technology team. The ITPMO is responsible for management of the IT project portfolio, predictable and efficient delivery of successful programs and projects, communication of status and financial reporting, and establishment and execution of foundational processes that align with organizational strategy. The ITPMO consists of Portfolio Management, Program Management, Project Management and Business Analysis that execute on Advance Auto Parts mission; 'A Passion for Customers. A Passion for Yes."

The Senior Manager, IT Program and Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for directing the planning, execution and delivery of the entire portfolio of IT programs, projects and enhancements in support of business objectives and in accordance with the Project Management Framework (PMF) and within budget.

As the Senior Manager, IT Program and Project Management, some of your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

  • Partner with the Director – IT PMO to:
  • Develop, maintain and enhance the IT project management framework to govern IT initiatives with the goal of ensure the IT Portfolio is delivered in the most effective and efficient way
  • Develop meaningful metrics that measure the effectiveness of IT delivery and identify and implement improvements
  • Develop processes to lead and manage project prioritization processes for the enterprise
  • Work hands on with cross functional teams to develop sustainable solutions (playbooks/templates) for executing strategic initiatives that are critical to business success.
  • Establish, maintain, and publish executive and task level KPI reporting to track and communicate overall portfolio status.
  • Lead and manage major IT programs and initiatives utilizing the IT Project Management Framework from inception to closure, ensuring delivery excellence while staying within budget.
  • Champion adoption and drive continuous improvement of the Project Management Framework for all methodologies (agile/scrum, iterative, Waterfall)
  • Leads a team of Program and Project Managers in the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and close of an entire project
  • Analyze multiple types and sources of information to generate insight on project performance
  • Provide financial forecasts and on-going reconciliation of resources and other project related expenditures
  • Clear roadblocks for project/program teams

Job Requirements

To be considered for this Senior Manager, IT Program and Project Management role, we're looking for individuals that possess:

  • Proven experience driving continuous improvement to all aspects of project management and project delivery
  • Ability to jump in and act as project manager when needed. Facilitate creation of work breakdown structures, develop and update project schedules/plans, identify risks and mitigation strategies
  • Proven experience raising the maturity level of project management
  • Excellent Influence and Communication skills, including navigating difficult conversations with stakeholders & staff
  • Ability to evaluates risks and issues and assess possible solutions to determine solution in a timely manner
  • Ability to remain calm in high stress situations
  • Ability to navigate and lead during times of conflict

Required Technical and Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a practicing Project Manager / Scrum Master
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with agile methodologies and product teams
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with direct responsibilities as a resource manager
  • Proven experience with delivering projects within a standard Project Management Framework

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a practicing Project Manager / Scrum Master
  • Minimum 6 years' experience with agile methodologies and product teams

Preferred Certifications:

  • PMP Certification
  • Project Management Certification
  • Agile Certification

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education

  • Master's Degree
