Position Title EHS Compliance Specialist

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated EHS Compliance Specialist for immediate employment in the Germantown, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mid-level position in AECOM’s Environment Business Line within the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technical Practice Area; position will report to EHS Department in AECOM’s Germantown, Maryland

  • Utilizes multi-media environmental and health & safety regulatory knowledge (i.e., CWA, RCRA, CAA, OSHA, etc.) and project management skills to help clients navigate their environmental and health & safety compliance challenges

  • Assists in the management and execution of multi-media EHS projects, including but not limited to performing EHS audits, developing EHS standards and procedures, preparing permit applications and maintaining compliance with permits, preparing EHS plans (SPCC/SWPPP/etc.), etc.

  • Maintains and develops client relationships, and helps mentor and develop junior staff on EHS multi-media compliance

  • Manages projects from proposal development through completion including tracking and controlling scope, schedule, and budget

  • Supports business development efforts, including the preparation of technical and cost proposals

  • Leads a project team of scientists, engineers, and subcontractors

  • Interacts with local regulatory agencies and clients

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental-related field (e.g. environmental science, geology, etc.)

  • 4+ years of environmental experience

  • Requires proficiency in multi-media environmental regulatory compliance (e.g., CWA, RCRA, CAA, etc.) and its application (i.e., developing SPCC/SWPPP plans, NPDES permitting, etc.)

  • Requires previous consulting experience

  • Requires previous project management experience (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients and projects, managing project teams)

  • Ability to act independently on technical matters pertaining to EHS regulatory compliance

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including technical report writing and data evaluation capabilities as well as detailed field (on-site) observations and associated documentation

  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Environmental regulatory experience is required

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of environmental experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification

  • Professional certification (e.g., CEP, CHMM, PE, PMP)

  • Health & Safety regulatory experience/knowledge is preferred ()

  • Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessment/due diligence experience

  • Good presentation/training skills

  • Working understanding of federal contracting and sub-contracting practices and requirements

  • Experience in the Mid Atlantic region
