INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT: The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Legal Affairs (OAG) is a pre-eminent, constitutional office, which serves as the chief lawyer to all state agencies and provides legal protections for Floridians against fraud and through the enforcement of the state’s laws. The OAG, is a cabinet agency in the executive branch of Florida state government.

OAG employees are paid biweekly. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the Florida Bar and three years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings.

Membership in good standing in another state Bar can substitute for the required admission to the Florida Bar provided membership in the Florida Bar is attained within 12 months of appointment to a position in this class.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is in the Employment Litigation Bureau. The person hired will be required to defend state agencies and officials in federal and state trial and appellate courts in civil litigation. Excellent opportunity to hone litigation skills as the selected candidate will handle all aspects of litigation from the beginning to the end of a case as lead counsel.

Duties include: Research and draft motions, answers, replies, interrogatories and other discovery requests, memoranda of law, briefs, orders and other miscellaneous pleadings and documents; meet regularly with clients and witnesses; take and defend depositions; negotiate settlements; and perform routine administrative tasks including directing the work of legal secretaries, paralegals, and interns; preparing travel vouchers, time records, and case status reports; and filing documents as necessary.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to candidates who have Title VII or Florida Civil Rights Act (ch. 760, F.S.) experience, and those with litigation and trial experience. Travel required.
