Responsibilities

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for the facility design, construction oversight, technical system design, system integration, deployment, and decommissioning of NBC's Olympic International Broadcast Center. This is a temporary facility presently housing studios, editing, transmission and support facilities that is assembled in each Olympic city for a period of approximately 120 days every Olympic cycle.

Responsibilities

Facility Design and Construction oversight:

The facility design include the generation of the floor plan, based on detailed interviews and assessment of production client's needs, physical adjacencies and efficient people workflows

Oversee the generation of architectural details of power distribution, lighting distribution, HVAC, and adherence to local building codes with the deliverable of a drawing package set that will be submitted to the Host Broadcaster for their bidding for fit out construction. This requires close collaboration with the Olympic Host Broadcaster, who will ultimately perform the fit out construction. This position, along with NBC construction management, is required to oversee the revision and signoff process and perform acceptance of the facility in the Host city.

This position will require multiple short visits to the Host city prior to the Games time commitment for the purpose of direct collaboration with the Host Broadcaster's construction and engineering departments.

This position will require relocation to the Host city for a period of approximately 120 days.

Technical System Design:

Oversee the design of the Broadcast and Digital infrastructure, including:

Collaborate with Olympic staff in design of workflows, both hardware and software based.

Oversee IBC system design in totality, coordinating Core, Graphics, Audio, Studio and Transmission designs.

Oversee equipment selection in coordination with Stamford Production Center to accommodate for Stamford equipment refresh cycles.

Coordinate with Venue Engineering to align IBC and Venue facility levels with regards to equipment and connectivity levels.

Coordinate with NBC Sourcing to achieve cost effective purchase and rental strategies that allows for cost effective evolution of technologies.

System Integration and Deployment:

Manages the System Integration firm that designs and installs the IBC broadcast systems, along with managing the hiring of the necessary freelance engineering resources needed to test, commission, and operate the IBC

Coordinate project schedule for equipment selection, equipment ordering, early integration, system testing, equipment shipping, and on-site deployment.

This position is responsible for the management of the relationship between NBC and the Olympic Broadcast Equipment supplier.

Manage the collaboration between the integration firm's engineers and NBC project managers to assure designs meet the project requirements, and that they conform with the project schedule.

Manage the stateside Early Integration project, in which all sub systems are to be pre-configured and fully tested before shipment.

Oversees the technical documentation and training needed to train and familiarize both staff and temporary employees in the operational and technical operation of the IBC, with emphasis on the temporary nature of the IBC systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors in Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.

10 -15 years of experience in large scale network television design, deployment, and management.

Strong ability to be a "Production Architect" who can take both the verbal and demonstrated needs of the production staff and turn that into the systems design criteria for the whole of the Olympic IBC.

Excellent leadership and communications skills are required. The candidate should have the qualities of an inspirational leader that has the ability to build and nurture team collaboration.

The ability to maintain a cool head and demeanor when dealing with the chaos of a highly complex and dynamic broadcast environment of the Olympics.

Excellent trouble shooting skills and the ability to diagnose and solve issues with the shared target, with other engineering teams, of not allowing interruption to any of the deliverable broadcast or digital products or services.

Large scale TV Remote experience a significant plus. Live Production and Post Production experience also strongly considered. Experience with live production switchers, audio mixers, video servers, graphics generation and play out systems, cameras, and routing matrices are all required.
