Providence St. Joseph Health is calling for a Regional Director, Ambulatory Operations in Portland, Oregon.

This position provides strategic leadership, financial management and vision necessary for a highly diverse range of Ambulatory programs to ensure effective growth, financial strength and operational efficiency. This position is directly accountable for: Neurodiagnostics and Sleep Medicine program; the Workplace Health Services program; Outpatient Diabetes Services; Medical Weight Management, Health Education Services; Fitness Services, support for the Regional Retail Pharmacy program, and Ambulatory Product Management. In addition, it provides strategic leadership for growth of Ambulatory services in new Health Center development and Outreach Markets including joint venture development.

This position is responsible for the overall design, development, and implementation of strategic planning, management and patient/client care systems for the programs and services it is accountable for to support regional and system goals for an integrated delivery system. Responsible for development and implementation of business and financial plans for these programs that support the ambulatory services goals of the Triple Aim: population health, best experience and affordability. This position is responsible for broader Ambulatory Services initiatives and reporting as requested by the Chief Executive including monitoring and reporting of strategic objectives across Ambulatory Services through the Ambulatory Dashboard and leadership of the Health Center Operations Committee. This position requires expertise in business planning, strategic management, and growth strategies.

This position is engaged with and impacts employee, physician, and patient satisfaction across all sites, and is utilized as an expert in outpatient services. The role performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence mission and philosophy.

In addition, specific focus areas will include:

  • Provide direction and leadership for the development of short and long-term strategic initiatives for growth and cost-effective operations of accountable Ambulatory programs.
  • Provide direction and leadership of Ambulatory Productivity Council to ensure program compliance with productivity targets and action plans.
  • In support of the Chief Executive for Ambulatory Services, participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the strategic business plan of Ambulatory and product development.
  • Evaluates performance improvement opportunities and works with program leadership to direct tactical corrections.
  • With the Chief Executive, establish success indicators and objectives consistent with PH&S Oregon Region objectives and develops operating budgets in accordance. Responsible for the development and tracking of the strategic and operational dashboards for Ambulatory Services. Work closely with Ambulatory programs to monitor progress and reprioritize as necessary.
  • Responsible for evaluating new growth opportunities for the operational programs including facility planning, technology and information system needs, and capital planning in accordance with regional policies and procedures, including Ambulatory growth into Outreach markets.
  • Chair Health Center Campus Operations Council designed to create collaborative environment on the health center campuses. Act as liaison between all Providence, joint venture, and non-Providence tenants to enhance the delivery and coordination of clinical and non-clinical services on campus.
  • Coordinate integration efforts of all accountable regional Ambulatory programs to maximize existing clinical operations, create greater commonality across the state, utilize clinical expertise and resources to enhance all service lines, and to continually grow service lines around community need. Work closely with all key stakeholders across all divisions and entities.
  • Work with managers, directors, and physicians to assist with development of annual quality plans for accountable programs.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationship with employed physicians and medical directors to ensure achievement of common operating and strategic objectives. Monitor physician satisfaction on an annual basis.
  • Monitor caregiver engagement and assist with creation and implementation of action planning around improvement plans.
  • Provides direction and support to leaders in the delivery of services, including recruiting and selection of key leaders, developing and growing the leaders and evaluating performance.
  • Continually enhance professional growth and leadership skills through system-based leadership programs, community opportunities, and self-study. Serve as a mentor for the management team's growth and development. Ensure continued development of management team around mission leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned. Develops individual objectives consistent with the Providence Health System's Oregon Management System.
  • Measures and reports on individual objectives quarterly.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a clinical field, e.g. Nursing, Physical Therapy.
  • Master's degree in Health and/or Hospital Administration or Business Administration or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive management experience in health care with preferred experience in outpatient services.
  • Must have evidenced a strong ability to lead teams and maintain positive professional development.
  • Must include experience in a large matrixed organization including clinical operations, change management, process improvement, financial management, and business growth and development.
  • Possesses clear set of personal, organizational and societal values. Knowledge of and commitment to the application of Catholic healthcare ministries, principles and values.
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies in integrating Mission and values, planning and organizing, improving quality, leading and business effectiveness.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of healthcare trends, reimbursement principles, information systems, cost and quality management and customer service expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor process, progress and results by holding direct reports accountable.
  • Demonstrated independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making abilities.
  • Must have solid financial background gained through operational and business planning experience.
  • Experience in developing strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a highly matrixed organization, across all business units and divisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to empower and motivate others toward common objectives.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
