ROLE SUMMARY

Director Distribution Operation/Site leader for the Memphis Logistics Center (MLC) responsible for the delivery chain serving the US Biopharmaceutical market, supporting all finished goods (trade and samples) deliveries. Responsible for consistent compliance with required regulatory agencies regulations, Pfizer policies and procedures. Responsible for the development of the Site annual budget and financial forecasts. Define and continually update strategies and plans to improve key drivers of success, establish site performance objectives and operational changes and communicate these drivers to regional and global leadership to ensure optimal market understanding and support. Actively and aggressively engage in local market supply and delivery issue management, escalating appropriate issues to North America Global Supply Chain (GSC) management in time to ensure necessary remedial actions. Drive logistics management systems and continuously improve performance levels in line with established objectives. Provide appropriate performance metrics including the Supply and Logistics Balanced Scorecard (BSC), utilizing these metrics to tune and direct organizational performance. Establish & actively manage strong performance based relationships with BU operational leadership, clearly negotiating and defining service level expectations.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial and Global Supply relationships

  • Accountable for establishing appropriate professional partnerships, service agreements and communication processes with BU operational teams, GSC regional and global teams, Pfizer Global Supply sites and external suppliers to ensure continuously improving delivery chain performance service levels and objectives are achieved in alignment with approved budget.
  • Where agreed, participate on BU teams, bringing logistics expertise and knowledge to the teams and to the key initiatives in the market.
  • Continuously improve relationships with the commercial teams and satisfy agreed service levels.
  • Provide a single PPLC point of contact for Biopharmaceutical Trade operations
  • Implement and align with established NA GSC operating strategies including, but not limited to:
  • Logistics Operations, Quality & Compliance, Transportation Management, Information Management, Platform Services, etc.

GSC AMERICAS Management System and Performance

  • Accountable for the achievement of agreed / budgeted service levels and operating expenses while performing in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Define and update the delivery aspects of the Market Excellence and operational strategic plan, in alignment with regional and global strategies and imperatives.
  • Continuously improve PPLC performance levels and people/organizational capabilities, working with local and regional logistics /supply colleagues and external service providers.
  • Ensure development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Balanced Score Card (BSC) and relevant performance metrics (KPIs) in compliance with established guidelines. Define and achieve performance objectives to satisfy Commercial needs, GSC NA strategic objectives, monitored through the BSC and KPIs.
  • Establish and support Operational Review Meetings (ORM). Monitor, analyze and improve performance trends for relevant BSC metrics and KPIs, analyze root causes, define and implement improvement plan.

Organization Management

  • Responsible for the development and leadership of an engaged team of colleagues performing in an effective and compliant work environment.
  • Accountable for developing or augmenting needed capabilities and related training for colleagues in their organization.
  • Accountable for colleague performance management, succession planning and human resources processes while ensuring compliance with required regulations and practices.
  • Systematically improve process capabilities by applying GSC NA Market Excellence program processes and toolsets.

Asset Management

  • Achieve in partnership with the SC team, inventory and asset management goals and objectives. Drive continuous optimization of inventory assets / working capital.
  • Minimize inventory write-offs. Manage inventory shelf-life/expiry dates, and actively improve processes to avoid obsolescence write-offs.
  • Ensure expired or short dated stock is appropriately, securely, compliantly and expeditiously disposed of on a physical and financial level.

Logistics Operations

  • Develop and achieve operating budgets seeking continual process and cost improvement.
  • Accountable for the planning, organizing, directing and assuring the compliant management of all local legal requirements, as relates to finished goods import s to the site.
  • In partnership with import operations, ensure a compliant, cost effective, fast and flexible customs and importation process. Manage relations and monitor performance of local customs brokers / service providers.
  • Participate in and contribute to Trade and Distribution Strategy formulation and operational execution as appropriate.

Transportation Management

  • In partnership with US Transportation operations, ensure proper compliance and management of transportation providers
  • Define and achieve performance objectives to satisfy Commercial needs and GSC strategic objectives monitored through KPIs. Lead Quarterly Review Meetings with transportation providers to review KPIs

Master Data and Information Systems management

  • Accountable to ensure that all information management systems, data management processes and interfaces operate appropriately to support all key site drivers for success and delivery of agreed service levels. These systems and processes maybe local, enterprise, external or cloud based.
  • Provide input to establish appropriate service level agreements, performance requirements and monitoring metrics and issue management and resolution with local, regional or global teams that provide data and information systems services to the site.

Financial

  • Responsible for the development of the PPLC annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Monitoring and control of expenses to achieve budget and service levels.
  • Identification and implementation of cost improvement projects (CIPs), related to site logistics operations while maintaining efficiency and performance levels.
  • Perform landed cost analysis; partner with other GSC Americas teams to drive total cost improvements.
  • Periodically benchmark site logistics with other local companies to identify opportunities.

Compliance

  • Ensure consistent compliance with required regulatory agencies regulations, Pfizer policies and procedures, including e.g.:
  • Quality – Pfizer Quality Standards (PQS), SOPs
  • Financial –SOX
  • FCPA
  • Operations (EH&S, dangerous goods, facilities and conveyance security, Business continuity)

  • Trade and Customs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree required. Preferred degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics Management, Operations Management or Supply Chain Management.
  • Incumbent must be fluent both written and verbally in English.
  • APICS and/or Lean/six sigma training or certifications desirable.
  • 5-10 years of combined Supply and Logistics management experience is required in the below areas, working in the Pharmaceutical, FMCG, electronics, automotive, retail or other industries where understanding and alignment of final customer requirements with sales, marketing and finance, and with local and international suppliers of goods and logistic/transportation services is necessary:
  • Commercial relationships: Experience in partnering with commercial teams, understanding requirements and supporting supply & logistics business needs.
  • People management: Experience managing large multi-level teams.
  • Logistic Operations/Compliance: 5+years managing/supporting internal/external market warehousing, logistics & compliance activities, an internal distribution center, or a Logistics Service Provider company, including distribution metrics, costs management and operational compliance.

  • Financial: Experience managing or supporting a Supply & Logistics Market budget cycle, expense tracking and reporting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Overtime hours are required as needed. Position requires on-call availability to address support functions for the site. This includes evenings and weekends on a routine basis. Some lifting of packages of up to 40 lbs. may be required on occasion.

Travel for meetings and training as required.

  • Proven ability to work in a complex international organization. Strong team work orientation required. Ability to work effectively in an environment of competing priorities. Must have demonstrated consultative, influencing, analytical, strategic thinking, and problem solving skills. Strong oral and written communication, and presentation, data analysis and PC skills are required. Ability to interact and build effective relationships at all levels of the organization and across geographies is imperative.
