Job Overview:

The VP, Small Package Transportation holds primary organizational responsibility for all aspects of the carriers' services and directs the efforts of Transportation, Distribution Centers and Stores for these services. This position serves as Macy's, Inc. corporate small package expert, including development of strategy and execution of best practices that support omni-channel needs. In addition to perform other duties as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain national and corporate carrier relationships with all small package carriers to ensure cost and service performance standards are met.
  • Represent Macy's interests in development of new industry services and programs.
  • Develop recommendations for senior Macy's leadership in the areas of package delivery, returns, and overall customer experience.
  • Lead cross-functional, multi-year bid process for 3 year spend exceeding $1B.
  • Negotiate carrier contracts, rates and services.
  • Forecast, plan and review expense budgets for all areas of small package in conjuction with ML Finance team.
  • Ensure performance and expense objectives are met.
  • Champion and lead strategic and innovative projects that reduce expense, improve service, and enhance the quality of the customer experience.
  • Coordinate efforts of Small Package team to:
  • conduct small package carrier rates and service reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with the financial components of the corporate audit.
  • Provide direction for carrier integration.
  • Monitor volume commitments and WMS lane/service assignments.
  • Assist MCCS and Stores in tracking packages and addressing service concerns.
  • Define requirements & timing of and provide direction to DC's, Stores, MST, and ML Systems for shipping system changes in conjunction with ML Systems and D2C Operations.
  • Lead and/or participate in PMT's and PMO's related to small package activity.
  • Conduct periodic site reviews and facilitate local carrier partner communications.
  • Develop Peak Season shipping plans and participate with business partners in preparation and execution.
  • Maintain fluency in evolving services and markets and functional understanding of competitor initiatives.
  • Demonstrate regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Master's degree is a plus
  • 10 years management experience.
  • 7 years transportation industry experience heavily exposed to small package in a large-scale retail and/or omni-channel environment. (Extended experience inside FedEx or UPS operations a plus).
  • Familiarity with retail and/or omni-channel delivery network experience desirable.
  • Prior experience with a warehouse management system.
  • Background in emerging services and market trends in small package.

Communication Skills:

  • Able to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Powerpoint & Word).

Reasoning Ability:

  • Able to work independently and sets priorities for self and work teams to maximize speed and results.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Other Skills:

  • Strong skills and demonstrated experience negotiating transportation rates and services on high-dollar and large volume spend.
  • Able to successfully supervise/execute multiple projects simultaneously and must possess a management style that empowers and motivates others to achieve a common set of goals.
  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
