Colleton Medical Center's medical imaging department offers a wide range of services on an inpatient and outpatient basis with a concentration on the patient's needs, time, and comfort.

Colleton's medical imaging department prides itself on the variety of services provided as well as specialist radiology readings and the ability to electronically send images to the emergency department for faster diagnosis.

Position Summary:

  • The Vascular/Diagnostic Sonographer is responsible for performing vascular and diagnostic procedures.
  • The Vascular/Diagnostic sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of Ultrasound equipment and the vascular equipment, and for performing and communicating preliminary results to the Radiologist.
  • The Vascular/Diagnostic Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the Ultrasound Department, Customer service, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assurance (QA).
  • The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
  1. Performs and is responsible for Vascular and Diagnostic Ultrasound, Non-Invasive procedures under the direction of a Radiologist and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ACR & ARDMS.

  2. Reflects CMC's Mission, Vision and Values by providing the highest quality service excellence to each patient encountered. Utilizes AIDET. As outlined in the 2x2's: Is responsive to patient concerns/issue. Explains wait times and keeps the patient informed of delays.

  3. Proactively checks outpatient orders for next day to ensure order accuracy. Calls patients the day prior to their study to answer any questions they may have and to explain what the procedures entails.

  4. Completes all ultrasound logs, worksheets, Meditech and PACS.

  5. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care.

  6. Explains and educates the patient about the procedures to assure understanding and cooperation.

  7. Operates Diagnostic and vascular equipment, processes images and prepares room with necessary equipment and supplies for the procedure. Performs quality control testing according to regulations.

  8. Presents images and preliminary findings to the radiologist or attending physician

  9. Prepares room and assists Radiologist during invasive procedures.

  10. Practice and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement"

  11. Assist in covering call and holidays

  12. Vascular/ Diagnostic sonographer are responsible for maintaining their credentials and obtaining the required CEU's for certification.

  13. Participates in Departmental accreditation activities.

  14. Other duties may include but are not limited to clerical, transportation, ordering supplies, inventory, cleaning, and any other duties deemed necessary by the management team.

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • ARDMS or RVT or ARRT(S) or ARRT(VS) Certification, American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • RVT certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

B. Education:

  • Graduate of school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

C. Experience:

  • Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities.
  • Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient / internal and external customer.
  • Experience preferred in Diagnostic and Vascular Ultrasound to include clinical hours from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

D. Special qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and speak fluent English. Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
  • Computer skills needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
