POSITION SUMMARY

Are you an experienced medical underwriter, ready for a change and to make a difference? Aetna's Commercial Business Texas & Oklahoma Middle Market Team is looking for a dedicated experienced Medical Underwriter to join their team as an Underwriting Consultant! In this role the individual will be able to assist Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. S/He will provide underwriting support primarily includes identifying, evaluating, and managing risk to maximize revenue, membership and earnings. This team works on 51+ lives and works on new and renewal business, including some joint ventures. #AetnaCareers #Underwriting #WeJoinYou

Fundamental Components:

• Negotiates and explains application of more complex underwriting concepts, rate/fee development and policies.
• Produces accurate and timely deliverables while providing superior customer service in support of stated mission and key performance metrics.
• Ability to work effectively with customers (internal and external) to meet their needs as well as Aetna's.
• Interact and meet with customers, brokers and consultants.
• Utilizes advanced functionality of rating/ financial tools, reference materials, and source systems.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations
• Handles complex casework and issues using solid knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols.
• Manages multiple tasks and effectively prioritizes work.
• Interacts with all constituents using effective oral and written communication skills.
• Mentors less experienced underwriters in the development of their technical skills.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

• 2+ years of experience in medical underwriting pricing methodologies and funding arrangements, fully-insured and self-funded experience is preferred.
• Exhibits an in-depth knowledge of rating and/or accounting and underwriting concepts
• Demonstrated analytical and independent thinking skills.
• Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and negotiate with customers using tact and diplomacy
• Demonstrated analytical and independent thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
• Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications.

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
