Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is a 501c3 nonprofit where the ministry is to provide emergency food, shelter and guidance to men, women and families.  Located in Indio, CA, the Mission has provided food and shelter since 1971.  The Mission has 150-200 residential and between 75-100 overnight clients for meals daily and also provide public free meals and emergency food boxes to anyone in need.  Please visit our website at www.CVRM.org for more information on the Mission and the programs we provide.   Responsible for daily operation of the kitchen and food service at the Mission which entails control of inventory, purchasing, training a rotating volunteer and training personnel and health standards.  Additional duties include developing Mission Catering through community contacts, training staff, trainees and volunteers in food service while representing the Mission to the community.  Job Description   I.     INVENTORY CONTROL        A.  Coordinates budgetary restraints with the Associate Director in placing orders and        maintaining stores of food for the daily needs of the Mission.        B   Supervises receipt of delivered supplies of purchased and donated foodstuffs.        C.  Stores deliveries in appropriate locations, rotates and maintains order in storage areas.   II.    PLANNING/PREPARATON OF MEALS        A.  Plan nutritionally adequate meals, including holiday meals, special events, and post the             menus.        B.  Assure minimal nutrient loss during preparation of meals.        C.  Coordinate and supervise preparation of noon, evening, weekend meals and catering                operations.  Adhere to USDA and public health standards.        D.  Supervises and trains cooks in the cleaning and storage of kitchen utensils.        E.  Maintains kitchen security.        F.   Maintain security and insure the safety of food storage areas.        G.  Train rotating residents in all aspects of meal planning, preparation, and food safety.   III.   OVERSEE SERVICE OF MEALS        A.   Managing full kitchen operations of facility including cooking staff, volunteers and residents                              assigned to work therapy.        B.   Assure availability of clean utensils and dishes for staff, residents, and guests' meals.        C.   Assure adequate quantities of food and condiments are properly served during designated              periods (staff, residents, and guests' meals).        D.   Oversee and assign various food service responsibilities to staff, residents and volunteers.        E.   Responsible for working with volunteers, delegating their responsibilities effectively, and              treating them with appropriate respect.   IV.   FOOD SAFETY        A.  Follow principles of personal hygiene, food handling practices, and proper cleaning and             sanitizing methods as described in the "Food Sanitation Manual," also upholding government             regulations for health standards.        B.  Ensure that all cooks adhere to the principles stated above.   V.    FOOD BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT        A.  Develop an auxiliary income source through Mission Catering and business plan for food             services.   VI.   STAFF DEVELOPMENT        A.  Work with staff and clients to develop stronger job skills which can translate to a stronger             CVRM kitchen staff or for clients be job skills to find adequate employment in line with their                              goals.   VII.  QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS High level of knowledge and experience in food industry preparation and sanitation codesStrong leadership skills with the ability to handle pressure situations while maintaining composure and respect for those in direct report positions.Ability to prepare annual budget projections and maintain the kitchens within the confines of the budget.Ability to manage, develop and train residents and staff that rotate as kitchen helpers.A heart and desire to serve the needy in a Christian environment.Must be physically sound, as this position entails lifting, pushing, and pulling.Must be intellectually capable of basic reading, handwriting, telephone and bookkeeping skills.Must possess and maintain a clear, valid, California Driver's License.Must have a current ServSafe Certification and TB clearance and high school diplomaEffective time management and problem solving skills.Communicates well with the public and volunteers and group entities.Team player with the ability to follow instructions.   Benefits Package:   CVRM provides shared cost towards medical / dental benefits package, 401k match, generous vacation, personal time and sick pay for all Full Time employees.        The Desert Sun.
