Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently delivers our innovative services. Facebook's Energy Team is seeking a highly experienced, outgoing, and self-motivated energy professional to help us grow our data center portfolio and manage our energy costs in organized markets (PJM, ERCOT, MISO) in the United States. In addition, this person will help manage electricity regulation, policy and utility relationships for our growing fleet of data centers.

The Energy Manager will support the continued development and execution of Facebook's global energy strategy centered on a supply portfolio of cost competitive clean and renewable energy sources consistent with the company's overall strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in structured energy markets like PJM and/or ERCOT, as well as knowledge of a spectrum of energy supply issues including commercial, regulatory, market, technical and financial expertise. This position is full-time and targeted to be located in Menlo Park, CA, Seattle, WA, Fort Worth, TX, or Ashburn, VA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively manage energy use and costs for data centers located in structured energy markets in the United States

Partner with the Site Selection Team to help identify new locations in the United States that provide necessary energy requirements for new data centers

Take an active role in regulatory processes and influence rate-making and energy supply solutions offered by utilities and other suppliers

Develop and grow relationships with key utility partners, market participants, regulators, policy makers and other stakeholders

Partner with legal resources to develop and refine commercial arrangements for existing facilities

Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, reduce the environmental footprint, and reduce the cost of Facebook's energy supply portfolio and ensure alignment with the company's strategic objectives

Interface with internal organizations including data center on-site staff, sustainability, policy, communications, design, construction, legal, and finance

Support continued development and execution Facebook's energy supply strategy for data centers

Stay informed of the technical, market, and regulatory developments in the energy industry and communicate key trends, risks and potential impacts to management

Lead and support various energy projects as needed

Ability to travel domestically, as needed (25% to 50% likely)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in navigating commercial energy issues associated with customer loads and new customer locations

Experience at representing business interests to the leadership teams of potential suppliers, utilities, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders

Working knowledge of transmission, distribution, and utility interconnection processes

Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal staff, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders

Experience with communication including communicating commercial, regulatory, market, and contractual details to all organizational levels

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical discipline

7+ years of experience in technology or renewable energy sector
