Tractor Trailer Truck Driver

Summary of Duties:

  • Deliver merchandise from warehouse to stores.
  • Perform back hauls from vendors to warehouse or alternate location.
  • Shuttle loads and equipment between distribution centers as needed.

Primary Duties:

  • Drive tractor trailer units to retail stores and warehouses within New England. Deliveries average five stops per day.
  • Perform a 14 point safety inspection (e.g. opening the hood to check fluids, checking underneath to check fifth wheel, visual inspection of trailer) pre and post trip. If dropping and hooking a new trailer, a trailer inspection will be performed.
  • Verify the product is delivered to the correct stores by checking the pallet tags to the loading manifest.
  • Arrange pallets and bails and secure them in the trailer with load bars or straps.
  • Close rolling door. Store personnel will seal the door prior to departure.
  • Driver interacts with store personnel, dispatch and warehouse staff. Driver will have contact with customers if performing a back haul (3rd party transport of goods).
  • Accurately maintain hours of service utilizing onboard computer / company logging system
  • Process and maintain dispatch documentation and manifests neatly and accurately

Secondary Duties:

  • Occasionally may need to perform minor repairs. Assistance with these functions can be requested.
  • Occasionally assists in unloading truck using pallet jacks, scissor lifts and elevators.

Knowledge and Education/Training:

  • Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and Pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the Shaw's interviewing/hiring process (including pre-employment screening).
  • 2 years driving experience preferred.

Working Hours/Day:

  • Driving shifts vary from 9 -14 hours per day (average is 10 – 10.5 hours).
  • Driver can work a maximum of 16 hour per day and a maximum of 70 hours in an 8 day period unless you have a reset (in accordance with FMCSA Part 395).
  • Drivers may be scheduled up to six days per week during peak business periods.
