We encourage you to come join our team!General SummaryThe Cashier is responsible for register transactions involving the sale and/or return of merchandise.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.Customer Service•Project a positive representation of Paul's Ace Hardware.•Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers by name, when possible, when they are leaving the store.•Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates.•Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently.•Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.•Communicate any problem or issue that requires management assistance.•Continually build product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location.•Assist in pricing, stocking, marking and bagging of merchandise.Register Operations•Follow all cash register transaction procedures.•Responsible for balancing of register drawer.•Adhere to any promotion that may require implementation at the cash registers.•Participate in store and Cashier meetings.Front End Appearance and Upkeep•Keep the front end, including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean at all times. Face and dust front end.•Assist with keeping impulse counters stocked and faced, rotate fresh merchandise in as seasons change.•Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times.•Ensure forms and supplies are stocked at all times.•Assist with decorating the front end according to store manager's direction.•Call for cart pickups when necessary.•Inform management when merchandise returns need to be put away.•Perform all other duties as assigned.Other Essential RequirementsAbility to work varied hours/days as business dictates.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.Ability to process information/merchandise through a computer system and/or POS register system.Ability to communicate with associates and customers.Ability to read, count and write to accurately complete all documentation.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.Ability to freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, warehouse area, storage area, and register area.Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store.Ability to climb ladders, bend, stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 0-25 pounds.Education/TrainingHigh School or GED equivalent; three months or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.ExperienceCashier experience preferred.
