Corrections Cook - Full-time

CORRECTIONS COOK GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs skilled duties in preparing meals for the inmates and County jail personnel. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the close to general supervision of the Corrections Cook II or Officer In Charge. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise inmates in kitchen clean-up and food preparation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner; prepares food by washing, peeling, trimming, and cutting; measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen equipment; bakes biscuits, pies, cakes, etc.; Cooks and prepares food for meals as scheduled by pre-planned menus. Adjusts pre-planned menus as needed to accommodate necessary food substitutes; prepares meals for special diets; adjusts recipe proportions as needed. Cleans equipment used; washes pots and pans; sweeps and mops kitchen floor; cleans working area.. Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education and Experience: A. Graduation from high school and (1) one year of experience in institutional, restaurant, or related food service experience, AND B. An equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of food preparation using a variety of types of utensils and kitchen equipment, combinations of food that make for an attractive nutritional meal, the types of spices, sauces and other ingredients that make for the best and most enjoyable meals. Ability to convert teaspoons or table spoons to ounces, cups to pounds, etc.; and otherwise work with measurements necessary to perform the operations outlined in recipes, make changes in size and volume of recipe content in order to meet menu needs, work in a wide range of environmental conditions including excessive heat, standing, walking, lifting and continuous movement, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients and other agencies and the public. 3. Special Qualifications: (Certificates, Licenses, etc.) Must possess a food handlers permit. Must possess a HACCP Safe Serve National Restaurant Certification within three (3) months of hire date. Must possess a valid Utah driver's license. 4. Work Environment: Incumbent of the position performs physically demanding duties. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as lifting, walking, standing, stooping, reaching, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. May be required to lift in excess of 50 pounds in normal course of job performance. This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to random drug testing. Maybe filled by a Corrections Cook I with one year experience. Salary Range: $16.82 - $23.56/hr. May be filled by a Corrections Cook II with 3 years experience. Salary Range: $17.83 - $24.97/hr.
