Responsibilities

Position Overview

Reporting to the VP of Content, the newly created Director, Digital Media & Managing Editor position will lead digital content initiatives across NBC Sports Washington's platforms, including social and video to extend and augment its relationship with its audience to build increased engagement and ultimately, revenues for the company. The Director, Digital Media will define and refine NBC Sports Washington's tone and voice across these platforms. This position will develop and execute a multi-platform publishing strategy focused on growing the core audience and is a skilled content expert driven by data to commission great content.

Responsibilities

  • Drive "digital-first" content creation specific to our various web, mobile and social platforms
  • Work with VP of Content to create unique, entertaining content that performs on multiple platforms including social channels and engages viewers/fans throughout the day
  • Meet and/or exceed established multi-platform growth goals including fan engagement and content consumption metrics
  • Manage digital editorial staff
  • Manage, along with VP of Content, the Multi-Platform budget, including staff expenses and allocated corporate costs
  • Lead daily scrum meetings
  • Liaison with in-house departments (Content team, live events, sales, marketing and engineering) to ensure all goals and initiatives are fulfilled including advertising campaign fulfillment
  • Partner with Network analytics/measurement team to manage all online/mobile traffic and analytical requests and implement Content Strategy initiatives across multiple platforms
  • Establish and implement the overall strategic and editorial direction of all multi-platform digital content, and ensure the content meets or exceeds NBCSW standards.
  • Work with editors and staff writers on story ideas and editing. Create a work culture that nurtures and rewards strong reporting instincts, a sense of humor/irreverence, and an eye for compelling content.
  • Work with digital staff and management to oversee larger site initiatives such as editorial packages, analytics and audience strategy, schedules and calendar planning, and brand positioning.
  • Interact regularly with managers in other key departments, such as news, production and operations, and learn about all facets of the organization as a business.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

Minimum of 5 years' experience working with digital content

Previous experience managing a team

Previous experience as managing editor or similar, with a demonstrable record of success in sports coverage and ability to use full range of digital and social media tools to promote.

Passionate sports fan, with strong knowledge of Washington, DC Sports and its professional and collegiate teams, who knows how to aggregate, find and program engaging sports content.

Proven track record as a manager, able to build and develop a team.

Strong knowledge of web and media production techniques, including general communication, and dissemination techniques and methods (includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via interactive, written and visual media).

Outstanding communicator both oral and written, with the confidence, maturity and collaborative skills to establish relationships at all levels and across all functions of the organization.
