Must be currently enrolled in an MBA program with an expected graduation date between December 2019 and August 2020.

 

 

DISH’s summer internship is a comprehensive program designed to expose students to the media entertainment industry through a project assignment that is both relevant and impactful to our current business initiatives.  At the conclusion of the summer, interns present the findings and recommendations of their project to executives, managers and peers.

 

Interns are considered a long-term investment. Those who display DISH’s core attributes of curiosity, pride, adventure and winning are considered for full time employment.

 

Areas of opportunity for interns at DISH and SlingTV can be found in the following departments (listed in alphabetical order):

 

Content Acquisition (Programming):

The Content Acquisition (Programming) team influences the content we provide to our consumers by identifying, evaluating and securing television, movie, and on-demand programming.

Project responsibilities may include the following responsibilities:

  • Perform marketing and financial analysis for DISH’s international or pay-per-view/on-demand offerings
  • Provide operational support to manage the content across DISH’s linear channels, pay-per-view/on-demand, and on-line platforms
  • Perform competitive/consumer analysis and business plan development for one of our current or contemplated offerings
  • Interface with content creators (Viacom, the NFL, Comcast, etc.) to identify, pursue and source content; provide strategic and analytical guidance on all new content opportunities that support internal strategies and customer expectations
  • Develop relationships and work collaboratively with other DISH teams (finance, operations, legal, marketing, field, public relations, etc.) to ensure the department and systems are running smoothly

 

Corporate Finance:

The Finance team influences our business from the bottom line. Our team plans, designs and implements financial and operational cost models as well as recommends methods for improvement. Specific internship responsibilities may include:

  • Perform financial and strategic analyses in collaboration with operating groups to improve performance for all areas of the business
  • Assist business units with due diligence and draft capital project expenditure justifications for presentation to senior executives
  • Design and develop budget models; create budgets for entire departments
  • Interpret financial data and communicate conclusions and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Develop financial and operational models for the company and its departments
  • Develop financial reports to monitor key metrics, calculate projections and highlight areas of concern and/or opportunity

 

Marketing:

At DISH and Sling TV you will have the opportunity to execute a Marketing project at the highest levels as you will have a meaningful role in one of the largest and most advanced Marketing organizations in the country. Your project may focus on one of the following Marketing disciplines including:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Brand Marketing
  • Internal Creative Agency (OneTen)
  • Direct Response and Traditional Media Marketing
  • Consumer Insights and Research
  • Business Intelligence and Analytics
  • Strategic Segment Marketing including dishLATINO, Sling International, or Small-Town Markets
  • Marketing Technology and Project Management
  • Indirect Sales Channel Marketing

 

Operations:

The Operations teams act as internal consultants and help improve how DISH and SlingTV run all aspects of our businessOur Operations opportunities for MBA students are found in the following departments:

  • Customer Experience Operations – Serves as chief advocates for the customer experience, working cross-functionally to identify and create permanent solutions for customer pain points
  • Retention – Focuses on reducing churn through existing customer marketing and analytics
  • Sales – Supports sales initiatives with innovative solutions across many channels including Commercial Services, Direct Sales, National Accounts and Local Retailers

Specific responsibilities for each operational team may include:

  • Perform financial and strategic analyses to improve performance
  • Evaluate and optimize operational processes to improve efficiency
  • Develop models and scenario analysis to substantiate recommendations
  • Interpret financial data and communicate conclusions and recommendations to various levels of management

 

Product Management:

The Product team creates products and drives services that enhance the overall value to the consumer. Our potential intern projects within the DISH and Sling Product teams may include the following responsibilities:

  • Create and drive the product roadmap, user experience and overall success of our products and features such as:
    • A variety of Sling TV platforms (Apple TV, Chromecast, and more)
    • Hopper 3
    • PrimeTime Anytime
    • AutoHop
    • The 4K Joey
    • HopperGO
    • DISH Anywhere online and mobile video platform
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, design, and project management to deliver on your product roadmap.
  • Own the product definition and requirements documentation, detail project goals, execution, risk analysis, and release cycle.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives and support metrics required to deliver and enhance a best in class customer experience.
  • Develop new opportunities with external partners to manage changes or issues as they arise with the partner platform or other opportunities.
  • Build, automate, and analyze product metrics dashboards and reports.

 

Highlights of the Internship Program:

DISH’s summer internship is a comprehensive program designed to expose MBA students to the media entertainment industry through a 10-week program based in a project assignment that is both relevant and impactful to our current Marketing initiatives.
