About the Role

Reporting into the Manager of Mechanical Engineering & Design, this non-exempt role, Senior Mechanical Designer, will work as a member of the engineering design team to develop complex opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems capable of satisfying program functional and performance requirements. As a senior designer, qualified candidates will be responsible for the conceptual layout and detailed design of systems, using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Qualified candidates will be responsible for development and engineering release of all associated detailed drawings and Bills-of-Materials (BoM).

Specific Responsibilities

  • Understand the program functional and performance requirements

  • Maintain the top system level CAD model for accuracy and design integrity

  • Conceptualize layout and detail design of the necessary mechanical components and assemblies, using 3-D CAD tools

  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA)

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of drawings and specifications per IAW ANSI Y14.5

  • Prepare and maintain Bills-of-Material

  • Prepare for and participate in design reviews

  • Adhere to budget and schedule commitments

  • Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Management System (QMS), applicable standard work instructions and other standards imposed internally or contractually

  • Check and approve the work of other designers and drafters

  • Interface with vendors as required to manage interfaces, exchange information, and answer questions

  • Participate in internal team meetings to review designs, present progress or resolve technical design issues

Desired Experience, Skills and Education

  • Minimum Education: AA Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Design
  • Minimum Experience: 5 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Understands and applies mechanical engineering and design concepts at a high proficiency level
  • Experience with 3-D CAD software and Database Management tools, preferably PTC Creo, PTC Windchill, and Costpoint
  • Must be results oriented and possess a sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency with precision hardware and mechanism design a plus
  • Familiarity with optical hardware integration and assembly techniques a plus
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance
