The Major Gifts Officer will cultivate and manage relationships with new and prospective donors, including identifying, soliciting and stewarding donors. Of critical importance will be the ability to work cooperatively with and in support of foundation board members, affiliates, development staff, university president and other members of the university's leadership team. The Major Gifts Officer must be a highly energetic, organized and enthusiastic professional with a demonstrated track record of closing gifts, working collaboratively and strategically, with a strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fund raising. Minimum Classification Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Five years of demonstrated successful fund raising experience in major, annual or planned giving, or corporate and foundation relations in higher education or related field. Ability to listen and understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships. Interest in and a passion for all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the university's fund raising priorities for the benefit of the campus. Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships across a complex organization. Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout the state and across the United States.
