Seamstress

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Working in an industrial facility fabricating insulation blankets.
• Measure, align and ensure the blankets are assembled properly.
• Prepares machine by changing needles and thread; securing attachments.
• Required to support other MIT associates in the process of building insulation blankets.
• Responsible for keeping their work area clean and organized.
• Prepare work to be accomplished by gathering and sorting materials.
• Operating industrial size sewing machines including single and double needle.
• Responsible for the quality of their own work.
• Sews materials together by guiding material under machine needle
• Maintains quality by inspecting finished product.
• Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.
• Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements: 

• 1 to 3 years of sewing experience preferred
• Must have experience with single stitching, double stitching and surge stitching.
• Must be flexible to work various shifts and industrial environments.
• Ability to work overtime as needed to support the needs of the customers.
• Must be familiar with operating industrial sewing equipment.
• Be able to read an English tape measure.
• Be able to read basic instructions in English.
• Warehouse and assembly experience is a plus.

Education Requirements:  Some high school or equivalent.

Physical Requirements: 

Able to lift 20 lbs., bend, stoop, squat, reach, crouch and kneel.  Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
