What is my job:

At Wegmans, our Accounting Office is key to enabling our employees to provide incredible service through maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the store's financial transactions. In this area, you’ll handle the store’s financial matters and protect monetary assets so our departments can serve our customers. How do I make a difference?

Providing Incredible, Knowledge  Based Customer Service

  • Provide incredible service to our employees and complete tasks that ensure they are able to best serve the needs of customers
  • Prepare daily deposits for the bank, verify the previous day’s bank activities, work with cash flow departments to ensure they have enough change to get them through the day, give loans if necessary, and provide any assistance with financial matters
  • Perform hourly pick-ups and readings for the Front End to monitor sales and revenue
  • Assist Front End on register as necessary to ensure customers are receiving incredible service

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

  • Balance and maintain all the money from the store (sales, ATM and lottery machines), verify that all numbers match, financials are accounted for and the store’s assets are protected while ensuring confidentiality at all times
  • Prepare tills for cashiers, monitor  the store’s payroll for accuracy, help solve financial inconsistencies and check for discrepancies, and work with Team Leader to solve problems and come to resolutions as quickly as possible
  • Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Proficient in Windows based software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

  • Customer service, cashier, accounting office and/ or service desk experience, particularly in a grocery or retail setting
  • Experience working in a bank or accounting firm
  • Background in accounting
  • Experience handling large sums of cash or other tender
  • Able to problem solve, anticipating, analyzing, and identifying problems, responding quickly when situations arise and preventing problems when possible
  • Possess delegation skills and clearly communicate expectations in a positive way, assess employees' abilities when assigning tasks and follow-up to ensure their completion

Work environment: 

  • Work includes repetitive hand and arm movements, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, occasional bending and reaching, along with continuous interaction with co-workers in a fast-paced enclosed environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 1–10 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 25 pounds occasionally. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction)
