Nature of Work

This is an entry-level position providing custodial services support for university facilities. Employee performs a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of classroom buildings, residence halls, offices, athletic facilities, dining halls, or other university buildings. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is routine and repetitive in nature, and is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks, operating laundry services machines and performing special cleaning duties. Employee demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Required Qualifications

Skills: Must be able to complete tasks efficiently within a designated time frame. Must be able to learn procedures and retain information.
Interpersonal: Interacts with others in the work area in a manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks and ability to work as part of a team.
Customer Service: Effectively listens and responds to customer needs and understands the role of customers in the work environment.
Communication: Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed.
A pre-employment drug screen is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Training: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Six months experience working in custodial or environmental services in a school or hospital setting.
Skills: Basic knowledge of the operation and use of equipment and tools used in the care and cleaning of buildings. Basic knowledge of custodial services, practices, techniques, and procedures. Basic computer skills including email, web browser, and mobile devices. Valid driver’s license.

Salary

$10.78minimum - $12.93 midpoint (hourly)
 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp and frequently bend or twist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolds, and stairs. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift heavy objects (approximately 30-50 pounds) on a frequent basis.
