Growing cloud-based accounting firm is seeking a Staff Accountant/Controller to work in a dynamic, 21st century virtual office environment. This is a unique position that requires a diverse skill-set. Ideal candidate will be willing to work remotely from home or a regional co-working location of choice, have a finance/accounting background and be comfortable with web-based accounting software. Additionally, the candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office/Google Docs and have an understanding of third-party accounting tool integration. Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills as he/she will be responsible for managing both a global team of bookkeepers and be the main contact point for customer leads and current clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn and grow within the company. Additionally, successful client acquisition efforts will be encouraged -- and compensated for above and beyond the base salary.

Candidates that are current independent accounting professionals will be expected -- after review of current book of business -- to migrate and on-board already existing clients. A one-time signing bonus will be offered and negotiated commensurate with size, scale and quality of current book of business.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing a portfolio of 10 - 12 small business and startup clients
  • Be a client-facing point-of-contact for financial questions and requests
  • Specific accounting duties include Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting, Bank Reconciliation, Payroll, Accounts Payable/Receivable Management and QuickBooks Online/Xero Software Setup/Training/Consultation
  • Managing a global bookkeeper in a virtual office environment
  • Onboarding new clients

Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP standards
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and/or Xero accounting platforms. Proficiency and experience with both is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with web-based payroll, billpay and merchant service software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs
  • Comfort with web-based technology. Day-to-day responsibilities require use of project management software Bitrix24, expense report software Expensify, document management software HubDoc, billpay software Bill.com, payroll software Gusto, etc. All tools used in the course of the job will be web-based and heavily integrated with one another. Training will be provided.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sales and/or management experience not required. However, the ideal candidate will be expected to communicate with clients and staff on a daily basis
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or relevant business field required

Job Specifics:

  • Extensive paid, on-the-job training and certifications will be provided. Typical training last 30 - 45 days before systems are learned and candidate is ready for client work
  • Hours: 20/week with opportunity for full-time employment to the right candidate after initial training period
  • Pay Rate: $20/hr
  • Commission: Successful client acquisition efforts will be rewarded with a revenue share commission model
