Food service managers is a leader in the front of house. Responsible for overall operation for the restaurant, food service managers hire staff, make sure everyone is trained on proper food preparation, service policies/standards and understand health standards.

 

Food service managers make sure that company is represented correctly and that the company's standards are upheld. This position is a hands on working position. This individual will work through and alongside service staff. This position pays between 50-60K. This position offers additional income through our catering division when your schedule does not conflict with your primary duties.

 

Food service managers lead their team to make sure the food looks good, the proportions are correct, and it is cooked and served quickly by friendly and courteous staff. Food service managers also set daily and weekly cleaning schedules for the dining room / front of house, hire, train and discipline employees and set work schedules.

Food service managers also hit the books, by keeping tabs on waste and employee hours, doing their best to optimize profit for their company and create the best dining experience possible for customers.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Customer-Service:
    • Develop a training/on-boarding program for new team members with the focus on customer service
    • Determines customer service requirements along with the Operations Manager by maintaining contact with customers; visiting operational environments; conducting surveys; benchmarking best practices; analyzing information and applications.
    • handling customer complaints or any major incidents, such as a security issues, food quality issues/ unsafe food practices, etc.
    • keeping accurate records of discussions or correspondence with customers;
    • developing feedback or complaints procedures for customers to use;
    • developing customer service procedures, policies and standards
    • meeting with other managers to discuss possible improvements to customer service;
    • being involved in staff recruitment and appraisals;
    • training staff to deliver a high standard of customer service;
    • keeping ahead of developments in customer service by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending courses.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Food service managers have to keep their eyes on a lot of elements: food standards,, safety, etc.
    • Learning about your organisation's products or services and keeping up to date with changes;
  • Leadership:
    • Must be leaders in the back of house, rallying their team during heavy shifts, resolving conflicts and getting the job done.
  • Management Skills:
    • Food service managers not only deal with food, they also have to deal with feedback, pricing, creating work schedules, training and more.
