Overview

Provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychological, physical and general aspect of care; utilizes the nursing process in planning care; meets the communication and education needs of patient and family; provides care that reflect initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations. Communicates in a professional, positive, and assertive manner congruent with Mercy Service Standards. Communicates with physicians and other team members about changes in patient's condition, and is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in other departments with adequate supervision. Maintains regulatory agency requirements and adheres to hospital policies, procedures and standards.

Position Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Licensure: Current AR Registered Nurse licenseCertifications: Current Basic Life Support or complete upon hireOther: Ability to hear and read effectively. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English Ability to navigate effectively in many computer systems. Ability to work in a team focused environment. Ability to work in a rapid-paced work environment. Ability to work independently. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to provide quality bedside patient care.Preferred Experience: At least one year previous experience in clinical nursing preferred.Preferred Other: Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities

Provides competent direct patient care in a personalized and compassionate manner utilizing the Nursing Process:A. Successfully demonstrates proficiency of basic skills, equipment, and procedures, including unit specific skills.B. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to patient care.C. Safely administers medication by following the established policies and procedures.D. Uses the nursing process to care plan problems and goals for patients, setting realistic and measurable goals.E. Provides nursing care in accordance with the written care plan. F. Communicates problems to the interdisciplinary team.G. Monitor alarms are set appropriate to patient status and are responded to without delay.Documentation of patient assessments & reassessments reflect accurate patient status in all required documentation fields as designated per hospital policy:A. Completes Admission Navigator & Admission AssessmentsB. Patient Assessments & Reassessments reflect timely status of patient condition.C. Completes discharge instructions D. Completes consent forms E. Completes medication reconciliation F. Completes other chart forms and flow sheets appropriately.G. Charting reflects implementation of interventions from the care plan.H. Patient education and response is documentedI. Physician orders are acknowledged & acted upon in a timely manner J. Initiates and updates the plan of care per hospital policy.K. Documents medication administration as appropriate & in a timely manner *Medications are verified with EMAR and actual physician orders.L. PCA documentation is accurrate with amount of medication adminitered each shift M. Pain assessments are performed per policyN. Blood products administration documentation is completed consistently O. Narcotic management/wastes are accurrately reflected in omnicellCommunication effectiveness will demonstrate positvie customer service skills regardless of age & cultural differences to patients, families, & coworkers as evidenced by:A. Communicates verbally and non-verbally in a concise, effective, and appropriate manner B. Hand-off patient reports are complete, concise, and accurate utilizing SBAR.C. Communicates with dignity and respect to all personnel, physicians, patients and visitors.D. Reports significant changes in patient and/or clinical area condition to Charge Nurse.E. Calls physicians as needed and has all required information available.F. Utilizes chain of command appropriately.G. Keeps appropriate staff members informed before leaving unit.H. Assists in keeping noise level to a minimum.I. Delegation: makes safe and appropriate assignments and role models effective communication and behavior for team members; makes appropriate requests of team and ancillary personnel.J. Collaboration/Coordination: *Ensures patient needs are met and adequate supplies available for oncoming shift.K. Works with ancillary departments to schedule tests/procedures to facilitate completion.L. Education of patient and staff:M.Acts as a change agent to facilitate new processes.N. Answers all pages, call lights, and telephones promptly and professionally. Is able to answer questions or direct caller to appropriate personnel.M. Accesses interpretor or other devices to ensure patient / family needs are met Enhances professional growth & developement Supports hospital & unit specific performance Improvement initiatives Demonstrates behaviors that are supportive of cost effective patient care:A. Checks emails & mailboxes each time they are at workB. Attends Unit Meetings 8/12C. Read department minutes consistently.B Reports occurrences and medication events utilizing hospital process for reportingB. Adheres to Infection Control Policies.D. Adheres to Employee Health Policies.E. Clinical Ladder: optional but encouragedF. Sets priorities and utilizes time efficiently in order to complete work on time.G. Ensures items used are properly charged and utilized appropriately.H. Removes and returns discontinued equipment.I.
