About this job

Serve as working catering and/or beverage service coordinator for set-up services, and tear-down of beverage or catered events/refreshment services in the Purdue Memorial Union (PMU), Stewart Center, the campus at large, and some off-site functions. Assume ultimate responsibility for all assigned events. Ensure that high standards are consistently enforced pertaining to customer service, appealing food presentation, service standards, employee appearance, sanitation, and safe food handling. Follow and enforce all Purdue University and legal guidelines in the service of alcohol. Maintain strict cash handling and inventory controls. Maintain a valid Indiana Driver's License and an Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Employee Permit for duration of employment.

Requirements

Required:

High school diploma/GED. 

Three years of food and/or beverage experience, one year of which is in banquet/catering, fine dining, or commercial bar setting.

One year supervisory experience.

A valid US or Canadian  Driver's License.

Maintain a valid Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Employee Permit (at own expense) for duration of employment.

ServSafe Certified or ability to achieve certification with University assistance within one year of hire.

Must be able to function independently and make appropriate decisions.

Must demonstrate high word standards and productivity, professional communication, strong decision making, and dependability.

Understand financial impact of labor and food cost.

Competent in financial management, coaching, delegating, planning, and multi-tasking.

Technical competencies in banquet, buffet and refreshment service styles and food service sanitation.

Focus on customer service, teamwork/collaboration, and coaching/leading people.

Ability to meet multiple service deadlines and resolve unexpected crises.

Maintain and enforce strict controls on inventory, including alcoholic beverages, and cash banks at all times.

Ability to be able to walk/stand for periods up to 6 hours, use stairs, push carts, carry trays weighing up to 20 pounds, stoop and lift up to 60 pounds.

May work outdoors, as business demands, in all weather conditions.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds and maintain professional presentation. 

Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Hospitality Management, or related field.

Additional Information:

Hours for this position are flexible including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Hours are based on business need.

Frequent overtime required.

Purdue will not sponsor an employment related visa for this position.

A Background Check is required for employment in this position.

FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible For Overtime).

Retirement Eligibility: PERF/ Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan.
