General Function

Lead and manage retail and commercial store sales activities in order to achieve sales and profit goals.  Positively contribute to the growth and development of store team through training, communication, follow up, planning, organization, recognition and support.  Responsible for total store performance.

 

Essential Responsibilities (other duties as assigned)

Sales Management

  • Ensure execution of all retail and commercial in-store selling programs and promotions.
  • Observe, demonstrate, coach and require GAP ACT selling behaviors.
  • Implement business plan and sales strategies such as Referral Pad distribution, phone answering scripts and add-on selling; track progress.
  • Set team and track individual and store goals to achieve store sales performance goals.  Train and coach behaviors to achieve goals.  Recognize results.
  • Collaborate with the commercial sales team to ensure appointment and sales goals are met.
  • Ensure all team members are achieving individual prospecting and lead generation goals.
  • Analyze buying activity of existing accounts work to increase sales.
  • Support the commercial sales team in all related sales activities (order processing, price quotes, stock checks, substitutions, follow-ups, etc.)
  • Provide service and support to commercial customers.  Ensure customer deliveries are accurate and on time.  Maintain third party delivery vendor relationship (if applicable).
  • Help to coordinate and participate in commercial events e.g. commercial breakfasts.
  • Manage Tech Center performance, quality and turn-around times.

                                                

Personnel Management

  • Demonstrate and require a customer first mentality.
  • Schedule staffing based on the needs of the business within budgeted limits.
  • Develop and supervise Assistant Managers and Store Associates.  Provide training for all retail and commercial sales, operational and safety policies and processes.
  • Delegate tasks, validate completion and ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Prepare store for daily opening and closing including counting and reconciling register drawers
  • Provide ongoing coaching, development and recognition.  Develop team for future roles, ensure team understands the deliverables and is supportive of innovation and change.
  • Perform timely evaluations and implement progressive discipline.
  • Recruit, interview, select and hire with assistance of Human Resources Department and/or District Manager.

 

Operations Management

  • Oversee activities of Assistant Manager to ensure standards are met for merchandising, presentation, inventory management, loss prevention, safety, corporate reporting and facility management.
  • Understand and manage controllables, address deficiencies.  Identify and implement actions to control costs.
  • Delegate tasks, validate completion and ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Function as a leader by acting in an influential and persuasive manner. At the same time, be a team player and individual contributor to attain company goals.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum H.S. diploma/equivalent; Degree in business or retail management preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of retail management experience, preferably within a durable goods setting.  Experience in commercial (outside) sales desirable.  Prior Batteries Plus store experience strongly desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.  Able to effectively manage confrontational situations in a controlled and courteous manner.  Speaks clearly and effectively in controlled and courteous manner.  Speaks clearly and effectively in a variety of settings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and capable of adapting learning to incorporate new technology.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.  Must use judgment to recommend changes to existing methods and make decisions guided by established policy and precedent.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to calculate simple math, percentages and ratios.  A basic understanding of accounting procedures and financial statements necessary.
  • Strong technical aptitude; a basic understanding of electronics including the ability to accurately read gauges and work with hands.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to become forklift certified, if applicable.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business including peak seasons and special events.  This includes the ability to work at multiple store locations, as needed.
  • Cell phone with voice plan for work related purposes on an incidental, but necessary basis (25% or less)

  • This position requires the employee to regularly stand, walk and use hands to handle or touch; frequently talk, hear and lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach above shoulders, and lift more than 50 pounds.
  • The position also requires the employee to regularly use electrical cables, simple hand tools, a magnifying glass, spot welders, automotive and electronic testing equipment, as well as regular use of the phone, fax, computer, and printer/copier.
  • Up to 15% local travel by company and/or personal vehicle.
  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock.  The level of noise in the working environment is moderate.
  • Protective clothing and/or equipment used in this position including safety glasses, googles, gloves, and steel-toed shoes.
